Space-saver spare wheel queries ...

Yeah I guess that would be logical, but I have the 17" rims not the 18" of the trophy and xpower, think I'm gonna have take a wheel off and have a look.
Sorry didn't mean to put the funny emoji, big lumbering fingers

I would think the LR will have the same brakes. Same battery, same weight , there abouts.

That would seem to make entire sense ... for the SEs. Just for the sake of avoiding ambiguity, though, for the Trophy range, I am still not 100% sure that the 64kW LR/XPower and 77kW ER share exatly the same calliper/brake dimensions (as I have only the one to measure!), so I would recommend anyone in the 18" Trophy/XPower category - LR or ER - to follow your original advice of so long ago now and get the 18" 'Audi, etc' spec wheel from whichever supplier they prefer. As you have repeated, if the hub etc dimensions are correct, the overall size or the spare is relatively unimportant.

I think if you search back over various forums, you will find this confirmed frequently and that any 17" 'VW'-type spare (or any of the 100s of other brands that share the same hub and PCD parameters etc.) will do ... but after my own personal unpleasant and costly experiences, your proposed fail-safe of checking first is essential.

I have 17" on my Trophy as it is phase 1 .The 18" space saver is fine it is pretty much the same outside diameter anyway.

Yes, I made a costly error and bought a golf 16" spacesaver off eBay, still it was only 35 quid, and I'll prob try to sell it on gumtree. However, I took a front wheel off this morning and tried it on there and it actually fitted, but with less than 5mm clearance between caliper and wheel, I thought that would be cutting it a bit fine. The calipers don't look like the larger ones I've seen pics of so I think I'll go for this road hero 17" I've put an offer in for, you can see on my pic there's loads of clearance with my 17" wheel on.

For what it’s worth, if a rim clears the calipers, then it clears the calipers. If the distance between rim and caliper changes while driving you have bigger problems to worry about.

Yeah I suppose I was thinking about small stones and debris getting jammed in there, but you have a point, maybe if my offer is rejected I'll stick with the one I have, it is only for temporary use after all.

I can report I bought an ex Golf TSI 2012 space saver via Marketplace for AU$50 and it fits my Essence 64 (Trophy ER?) both front and back.
It is a 125/70R18 which gives it a slightly smaller diameter than the original 235/45R18s but would be fine for low speed and low distance use. There is plenty of clearance to the callipers, and from my very rough measurement, both front and back look to be 300mm discs. My investigations suggest only the Xpower has larger 340mm discs on the front, all other models have the same smaller size front and back.
