MG4 lane keeping assist

I updated to R59 a few months ago and even though the LKA/ELK is much less intrusive I still turn it off before every drive.

I found that on bright sunny days (rare in the UK I know) it seems to get confused with the dark foliage shadows on the road and starts pulling you around. Also, mine for some reason always liked to steer me towards the white lines. Very odd.

It'll stay off for me :)

I become too scarred about this LKA at MG4 and I am thinking to not choose it anymore. When I am looking at other EV'cars, at their prices... I really don't know which good car should I buy for max 30000 eur with autonomy over 350 km. :)

What makes you think LKA would be that much better in a same priced car? My LKA is fine, as is the LKA of many other drivers here. But if it’s something that scares you then perhaps look for a car with less autonomy and a lower NCAP star rating, as these will more likely not have these systems

The SR / Standard does not have ELK ... it has basic LKA. (I know the Trophy / Luxury has 2 or more distinct elements to lane keeping that can be configured ... in the SE it is all related to basic LKA: you can set Audible Alert [or not], Vibration Alert [or not], the LKA sensitivity [Low, Moderate, High], and obviously turn the whole LKA On or Off).

As a test I have tried setting LKA sensitivity to High (I normally set it Low) ... on my latest journey (mainly motorway but some smaller roads) I found it be to much less intrusive - my thinking being that perhaps High sensitivity means it'll see road markings more clearly. (I know this seems counter-intuitive). This is an experiment I'll continue with to see how it goes.
I tried this last night on some country back roads and it definitely felt less annoying. I'm going to test again today. These roads I was on had a mix of clear lines right and left of me to no markings on my left and a lot of faded lines or dried in dirt as well. You might be on to something there because my steering wheel wasn't going nuts every few minutes.

Interesting.I experience the opposite with my ER. But I do not have the latest updates ..

I find the collision avoidance system not helpful when you are driving normally as it bleeps when you are close to another car, which distracts the driver when the driver should be concentration on the vehicle ahead, I find this dangerous, and that is exactly what happened when I had the car new, it bleeped and this did not help as I collided with a car. I'm not saying it was the main cause but it didn't help as I was not used the all the bleeps and warnings that the car makes when new.

Keep your distance to the car in front perhaps?

This sounds like saying “the camera flashes distract me when speeding through a red light, very dangerous”

I too get irritated when car bleeps again and again if LKA thinks I'm doing something wrong. Fortunately, I can disable that bleep...

Thing is, I rarely get bleeped by the collision avoidance system. Maybe I keep a bit more distance?

Mine is on the latest updates. Using the high setting LKA is definitely an improvement for me. Half my commute is on about 15km of motorway which is basically a long series of continuous, sometimes tight bends, with a few kinks. In my mg I was often drifting over the rumble strips but with the high setting on tonight the car never drifted over them.
It also wasn't too bad on the country roads, even when it did beep, it wasn't as aggressive twitching the steering wheel and it wasn't beeping at me as much as usual.
Only two trips on that route so far and the weather is good so I can't say for sure yet, but I'm feeling this is working.

Forgot to add mine is a 2024 64kWh LR Trophy spec.

And before the latest update you were on what? And you did not get in between lka fixes?

Reason I'm asking is that you are talking about an improvement, and whether that imprrovement would resemble with one that I could experience if mine would be updated. I'm r48 with additional lka updates in May 2024.

So I do normally keep a good distance, but everyone gets into the situation where the car in front gets a little close, and when they brake hard and gets closer you should be braking not getting distracted by a F@kin annoying bleep.

Hold on... Does "high sensitivity" mean it gets involved less often than "low sensitivity"?
I thought it was the opposite!
I've got ours set to "low"...
???
I've got mine back at Low. @Rom picked up on an earlier test of mine where I was trialling using High sensitivity, on the premise that it might detect actual lane markings better and so lead to fewer misreads, thus fewer twitches. In the end I decided that it wasn't really working out for me.

I tested high LKA sensitivity in all three drive modes on my way to work. It definitely caused more unneccesary warnings and steering interventions. On the way back this evening I reverted to low and all became peaceful. So I'm with Siteguru.

went on a trip today out in the countryside. I kept lka on at high and in about 120kms I only heard it beep twice. The car was pulling at the wheel when I was hugging the white line in the middle of a bad road but it was in a much more controlled way rather than just a sharp jerk. This was what I was used

I'm finding the opposite still. I went on a trip today out in the countryside. I kept lka on at high and in about 120kms I only heard it beep twice. The car was pulling at the wheel when I was hugging the white line in the middle of a bad road but it was in a much more controlled way rather than just a sharp jerk and keeping me from pushing over the line. This was what I was used to in my old fiat which had way better lane assistance, plus it had a button on the light stalk to switch it off, but I rarely ever had to. I need to test more I think, maybe the milder weather is making a difference more than the settings.

My car came sold with the R59 update. I never tried it before that so I have nothing to compare it to. All I can say is the stronger setting of lka seems to be improving the constant annoying jerking at the wheel for me. But currently this is the mildest weather we've had since I got the car. If the weather stays similar for the rest of next week, I might try test and compare again on all the strengths and see if improved weather isn't a factor.

One explanation could be the more recent firmware since you are on r59 at least.
I will be getting r63 beginning February. I think it is more useful to respond when the car is back and I had a couple of working days behind the belt
