Hi BigglesHi I bought my MG3 Hybrid Trophy in September 2024. Recently I have major issues with the car,
1. Clunking sound when I accelerate or de- accelerate.
2. A loud popping sound from the speakers when the car is shutting down.
3. Speed warning telling me to do 80mph in a 30 or 40 mph zone and 40mph on the motorway ???.
4. Engine warning light on the dash for a fault with the Hybrid system.
It has been in the dealership for a month now and between MG Technical team and the dealership they have no idea about these faults. The MG Technical team have so far suggested changing the gearbox oil and taking the wheels of the car with no results. Any advice please as I'm thinking of handing the car back to the dealership under "unfit for purpose" as its only four months old.
As I've said many times before, and will continue to say - MG UK Customer service is amongst the worst I've ever experienced with respect to a vehicle manufacturer!Yes, there are a few problems with the MG3 hybrid, but fortunately, from my point of view are annoying, rather than (hopefully not) serious. Yes, the speed limit problem has shown itself and on occasions, there is an electronic ‘pop’ from the speakers. Another problem that is become more obvious, again annoying, is the current maps in the nav, which are now well over a year out of date and ‘good old customer services’ are unable to give any indication of when the update will be available, in fact, they now ignore my requests for an update on the rollout!
Hi Eric, the car has now been in the MG workshop for five weeks and after trying lots of different attempts such as taking the wheels off, emptied the gearbox oil, dismantled the gearbox surprisingly nothing has worked so MG have now decided the totally replace the complete gearbox in another attempt to solve my issue with the car. I have now after a long fight been given a brand new 2025 like for like MG 3 Hybrid plus as a full replacement. Diggers crossed that this one does have the same issues I had on my previous car. Regards.Hi Biggles
Rules on wanting to reject after 30 days but before 6 months.
If you have had the car for more than 30 days but less than six months, you have to give the selling dealer one attempt to fix the fault before moving to reject the vehicle. If the repair has not fixed the fault, you can reject the vehicle.
If you part-exchanged your old car on the new one, you will not get it back. Instead, you will get a cash value for the new car. However, unlike the short-term right to reject, it may not be the full value.
In this instance, the dealer is able to claim a reduction in the value of the vehicle. This is based on the mileage covered and time elapsed. There is no guidance on how much they can charge you, so be prepared to negotiate this with the dealer. If it goes to court, the judge will decide.
As above, it is the dealer’s obligation to collect the vehicle under the Act. You cannot be charged for return costs or be forced to return the vehicle yourself.
Eric.
Hi I have looked into this specific issue and asked my son who is an electronic technician. He said it sound like the hybrid system is shutting down / discharging and earthing through the stereo system hence the speakers make this popping sound.Hi my mg3 has a popping type noise when radio Is left to cut out by itself after about one minute a loud popping bang type noise can be heard and it is quite loud sometimes sounds like a relay or circuit board shutting g down any ideas I've told my local dealer but they don't seem that bothered into trying to find the concern
If you mean you hear clicks like an electronic relay (something like: ) after you push the start button to shut the car down - that's normal.Hi my mg3 has a popping type noise when radio Is left to cut out by itself after about one minute a loud popping bang type noise can be heard and it is quite loud sometimes sounds like a relay or circuit board shutting g down any ideas I've told my local dealer but they don't seem that bothered into trying to find the concern
