So, I'm picking up my first ever BEV (MG4 obviously) on Friday, a lovely looking white TLR. I've spent time lurking on the forum and trying to pick up as much info as possible and it's been an invaluable resource, thank you to all the contributors for sharing your experiences. Could you let me know whether I've missed anything crucial from my to-do list below?

1. Download appropriate apps (iSmart, ABRP, ZapMap, Ionity, Electroverse) - Done
2. Check out service plans with a selection of dealers in the region - In progress
3. Purchase breakdown insurance - Done
4. Update car insurance - Done (only £90 p.a. more than I was paying previously - stories about forum members experiences had me concerned for a while)
5. Familiarise (god bless YouTube) myself with MG4 infotainment system
6. Plan an initial public charging stop to try out.
7. Reach out to forum members to validate actions so far - Done

As @Jomarkh says - and Tesla open to all are reliable and cheap (compared to others!)

Also worth doing some calculations regarding EV tariffs and if they are worthwhile for you and then deciding which charger would be best for you.

And Welcome!!!

Hi, welcome to the forum.

You don't need Item 3 as it comes with MG AA assistance.

Item 6, try a few different Rapid DC CCS chargers as they don't all work the same.
Thanks for the feedback, we already had the breakdown policy, it was only £5 to add the MG4 so no real harm.

I'm not in a position to charge at home just yet so was planning to use a local Ionity facility and their Power Passport membership reduces the rate to £0.44 / kWh, about the same cost per mile as I am getting in my current ICE vehicle.

Welcome to MGEVs, and EV ownership @GJMG4 North

£0.44 is a fantastic rate (y)

Are you saying I can use Tesla chargers?

AA Assist - On the provision that your servicing is done at a dealer. If not, then the AA Assist evaporates :)

Thank you all for the helpful responses. I'm delighted to say that pick-up went smoothly and the journey home (190 miles) was uneventful but educational.

One quick follow-up question regarding ACC - is there an easy way to accurately select a cruising speed which is doesn't end in a 0 or 5 mph? I understand that a longer hold on the up/dowm left and button is supposed to be the way to do this, but it seems like random chance what speed it selects, the numbers change too quickly to allow me to land on the correct choice, it was 'driving' (no pun intended) me bonkers yesterday. Is it best to simply set the ACC at the desired speed by accelerating to it and then pressing the ACC button?

It sounds as if a short press on the button gives you a 5mph change. Please confirm. (A longer press gives increments of 1mph.)

After SCUK002 the operation of the button was reversed with a short press giving 1mph increments and a long press a 5mph increment. Your car should have had that service campaign update as it is over a year old.

The car is a Feb 2024 registration, but not sure of the build date (it's MY24 - rear wiper present). Single press gives +/- 5mph, longer hold for single digit changes but that's where I'm having difficulty.

Don’t know what the situation is ther in Blighty but a 22kw charge cable is something to think about. Some hotels and businesses have destination type chargers that require your own cable here in Oz.

As others have mentioned this is a software version issue. Older versions of the software did not have the 1mph increment/decrement option just the 5mph option.

My July 23 build has the small increment option…not always easy to activate as it seems to be about a two second hold on the button that does it.

The dealer kindly supplied both the granny charger and a type 2/type 2 cable.

As @Phil said, yes it did - it's just that the toggle operation was the other way round ... long press for 1 mph increments, which was very fiddly. The updated way - 1 mph increments, and hold for 5 mph increments - is more logical. And the ICE Corsa I had as a courtesy car recently worked that same way. :)
