Delay paying £190 car tax on EV until April 2026 (action needed before the end of March 2025)

I renewed it this morning as I knew I'd forget otherwise and it gave me up to 1 February 2026. Good enough for me!

I just found this thread and decided to give it a go as I was concerned the HMRC might try to close the loophole in March (It's now the 24th Feb).
I was planning to sorn it on the 28th Feb and tax it on the 1st March (I did this before with another car to get it taxed before MOT ran out) but this seems like a much better idea so I went to the HMRC tax my car site, entered the details and continued on when it said the car was already taxed. I received an email confirming the car is now taxed for 12 months from the 1st Feb 2025.
I might do it again next month for funzies but happy to have saved myself £165.
BTW if anyone out there still thinks this is wrong I will point out that I have been paying over £400 per year to tax my EV converted Landrover Freelander because of DVLA/HMRC corruption so I don't have any qualms about this.

Ist February! If waited just another 5 days it would be until 1st March. That’s what I’m doing. I deffo won’t forget. Peter
I'm sure you're right - you'll save yourself another £20 odd pounds. I just hope the DVLA website doesn't crash on 1 March when all the thrifty EV owners suddenly log on at the same time :D.

No matter if it did, we have the entire month of March in which to calmly renew it 😉

As alluded to earlier today, there’s nothing to stop you renewing it again next week AFAIK.

Exactly. There's no logical or environmental reason for the VED on EVs to be so high, especially when other, polluting, vehicles have much lower VED. So this change is nothing more than a money-grab by the Government, because the increase in EVs has led to lower fuel sales hence lower tax revenue from that source.
