So in around 4 weeks time, our first service is due on our X-Power (not a bad effort - 14k miles considering of those 12 months, it was sat at the dealers for 3 months).

Anyway, still waiting for the quote for the actual service from the supplying dealer (Hendy Poole) whose customer service has just got worse and worse over the time we had the car. They have stated that if we want to extend the MG Assist breakdown cover for another year, it will be £36 on top of the service price.

I thought I had seen on this forum that it should be extended free of charge with a main dealer service or has this now changed?

What have people been paying recently for their 1st service?

TIA

That is my take on it as well, MG seem to have a fixed rate of £139 and this extends the MG breakdown cover, so your dealer seems to be taking the p!$$ unless the combine amount is £36 less than £139 and then perhaps it's a saving!!

If that's the case my leased car will be going to the cheapest (warranty respected) service place I can find (I was going to go to MG)

Not sure if the MG breakdown will be honoured if you do not go to an MG service centre, but there are other breakdown covers available!

£97.73p all in, including AA. (Service plan)

It's worth ringing them up to check. Although if you even need to use them and can confirm your car was serviced at an approved service centre then they should sort it out right away anyway. But always better to not have that hassle if you're stranded at the side of the road. :)

They are taking the piss. MG Assist is renewed by MG when the dealer registers that the car has been serviced.

Thanks for the replies. Well so far, the dealer hasn't bothered getting back to me with either a price or a response to the breakdown query (despite the fact they sent ME an e-mail reminding me the service was coming up!)

I've just heard that a dealer in Yeovil (FJ Chalke) has just taken on the MG franchise (either very brave or gluttons for punishment). So I'll contact them and hopefully bin-off Hendy Poole as I've spent far too much time there over the past 11 months.....

A nice email, I hope. 😉🙂👍
I had a similar situation. I had my third service and first MOT on my ZS last week at the main dealer.
Yesterday, nine days later the brakes failed. I called MG assistance only to be told that my cover had expired the previous day! They had not renewed it.
Anyway after a lot of to-ing and fro-ing MG assist agreed to have me towed to the dealership who had done the service. On arrival they knew nothing about it, head office had not informed them( they don’t like you talking to the branch, even if you ring the local number).
No courtesy car was available so they told me to arrange one with MG assist myself.
They were very helpful and had a car available within the hour.
Result Dealership 0 MG Assist 2.

So for reference, Hendy Poole finally got back - £155 for the first service but they are also going to install R63 (I had to use the key words HAVC inconsistent and wi-fi hotspot to get it under a warranty claim) & the updated LKA & FDR (SC077).

The call centre advisor had no clue about the extended AA cover so I'll print out the relevant page from the MG website and challenge them in person at the time of the service (31st March).

So had our first year service at Hendy Poole - £155. All went pretty well (a shocking change from the usual service here, at the service desk at least).

Had pre-contacted the MG Master Tech there (top bloke) who agreed to check and update all modules, as well as install R63 and do the LKA update. Despite all being updated in August last year, many modules required an update (including HV battery controller). Car definitely seems to have noticeably more grunt now at lower SoC's so pretty happy and HVAC now works as expected.

Always have LKA off but tried it way home to see if it had genuinely improved - on dual carriageways it was great, not intervening when not expected and gently when it did. However, as soon as back onto a twisty b-road - no, just no. So it still gets turned off each trip.

Dealer renewed AA cover without prompting too and they respected my request for it not to be washed (as much as I love their valeters with their buckets of grit).

They did try and rush me for 2 new front tyres as they were down to 2.9mm tread depth. I think my comedy laugh said enough on this front.

It's shame these cars don't get updated regularly due to the ridiculous MG UK policy as over the year & 15k miles we've had it, each time it's been back (many times), I've pushed for all modules to be checked and updated and each time, the car has improved in some way or another (sometimes subtle, sometimes really noticeable). I'm fortunate in that I can contact the master tech directly and get the updates done.

Overall, pretty happy with the service (wouldn't have been saying that about Hendy a year ago for sure!)
