1st service due soon - MG Assist now an extra?

So had our first year service at Hendy Poole - £155. All went pretty well (a shocking change from the usual service here, at the service desk at least).

Had pre-contacted the MG Master Tech there (top bloke) who agreed to check and update all modules, as well as install R63 and do the LKA update. Despite all being updated in August last year, many modules required an update (including HV battery controller). Car definitely seems to have noticeably more grunt now at lower SoC's so pretty happy and HVAC now works as expected.

Always have LKA off but tried it way home to see if it had genuinely improved - on dual carriageways it was great, not intervening when not expected and gently when it did. However, as soon as back onto a twisty b-road - no, just no. So it still gets turned off each trip.

Dealer renewed AA cover without prompting too and they respected my request for it not to be washed (as much as I love their valeters with their buckets of grit).

They did try and rush me for 2 new front tyres as they were down to 2.9mm tread depth. I think my comedy laugh said enough on this front.

It's shame these cars don't get updated regularly due to the ridiculous MG UK policy as over the year & 15k miles we've had it, each time it's been back (many times), I've pushed for all modules to be checked and updated and each time, the car has improved in some way or another (sometimes subtle, sometimes really noticeable). I'm fortunate in that I can contact the master tech directly and get the updates done.

Overall, pretty happy with the service (wouldn't have been saying that about Hendy a year ago for sure!)

I'm glad your happy but I still don't compute the £57 quid extra (over the price of my first service) you have paid!

TEEVES.

So the LKA is a recall so should not have been charged for that, and £155 for the first service seems very high. As a future thing for all peeps going to get servicing done, best complain about a fault , i.e. the temperature not reading correctly etc and that should then be covered by the warranty, so reducing the cost of all the updates that really should be updated as a matter of course.

No charge for the LKA update and I put in the correct complaints to obtain the R63 update as a warranty issue. Other Module updates wouldn’t normally be updated but master tech is a good chap and appreciates how badly MG customers get treated by MG UK, so did them as a favour. 100% shouldn’t be the case but just shows the appalling attitude of MG to its dealers and customers.

Regarding price, every other local dealership to me has dropped the MG franchise (probably for the reasons I mention above) so unless I wanted to drive 2 hours each way, I had no other choice (plus probably wouldn’t have got all the updates).

It did look to me like Hendy may also be ditching MG - the MG show room was empty bar one green X-Power and hardly any 2nd hand stock so they’ve either had an amazing sales streak or they are winding it down. Also the MG specific service reception person left has left and apparently isn’t being replaced, so read into that what you will.

I had mine recently updated from R40 to R63 as well. For me, I have noticed a general improvement all around, but the two main benefits are that I can now increase the ACC by 1mph each time, and the LCA is noticeably softer. The only other part I wish they would fix is when I have directions on AA on and the MG decides to give me a low battery warning it still stops the voice directions on AA.

You definitely have to say keywords for issues to get the update, mine was the screen would go blank when changing from light to dark mode and the safety systems shutting down while driving only to come back on 5 minutes later with the LCA being very aggressive. It actually caused me to get a speeding ticket as I was so focused on trying to find a safe spot to pull over that I did not notice a variable speed limit change, and got caught doing 44 in a 40 zone.
