I'm a pensioner now but for decades I was always at the front of the queue for technology and especially hardware/software updates.
Over the last few years I've gone by the saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it".
Very soon I will be having my first MG4 service and to be honest (and touching a lot of wood) I've got nothing to complain about, I don't even turn off LKA now because I'm so used to what it's going to do.
My software is SW168-29958-1300R33

What are your thoughts::
1) Take every update possible?
2) If it ain't broke don't fix it?

Thanks

Me personally, definitely No2

My X Power is due a First service in Sept and I'm leaving strict instructions DO NOT update the software in any way. As my car is running great. And I've read on here, in numerous posts, that updates have made it worse.
But it's up to you. 🙂👍

I've had the second service on my Trophy getting SC077 and now do not switch off LKA. But I am sticking with R33. The only update I would like is the one that keeps the camera on when switching from reverse to drive whilst parking but that comes with other updates.

I just turn the camera back on which you probably do.

If you don’t update the software then your car insurance may be invalid.

E.g. Allianz Section 13 Policy Document
Software Updates – you must keep the ADAS/ALKS, safety and security system software of your car up to date and you must not modify it other than in accordance with any manufacturer’s instruction, either by physical or OTA updates.

Devils advocate: you go for the annual service. The agent says they will do the latest updates. You decline. Sign here please. 3 months later lane keeping has a wobbly (plenty of stories on here) and the car totalled or worse someone is injured. Discovery and disclosure, the loss adjuster has the evidence they need to deny the claim.

You might get away with it, sure, but what’s the point in having insurance if you’re just going to invalidate it. You may not think it’s going to happen, but the insurers have calculated that it definitely will at some point to someone. Will it be you? Hence the policy terms. They probably have a standard question for it.

I’m not saying you must, just be open minded about the risks you take. At least by considering the risk, you accept it, rather than being unaware of it.

I can see all sorts of issues with enforcing this. If the dealer/manufacturer does not inform you every time an update is issued or does allow you to check what version of software is currently installed (without specialist equipment of engineer passwords) then you would never know if it is up to date.

For example if you are involved in an accident one week/month/year after MG release a software update how soon are you supposed to install the update before your policy is invalid?

Also in the case where you are driving a lease car and it is the leasing company who determine how/when the car is serviced and also insure it then if there is an issue it will be the lease company at fault

Is the correct answer. Software that needs to be updated that is deemed a safety risk will be updated via customer recall. Every thing else has got nothing to do with insurance cover.

I'm no.2 if it ain't broke don't fix it.
I am also on R33 and the only thing I'd have is the LKA update. Although I can just about cope with it jerking the wheel, I'm sure it actually goes the wrong way, towards the line instead of away from it. The main reason I don't want it to jerk the wheel is because SWMBO has arthritis in her hands and the violent jerk of the wheel would be painful for her, she won't drive it as it is.

By default mine does not make any beeps if the vehicle's speed exceeds that of TSR's (it just flashes) but I've read some cars do. It would be a disaster if they applied an update that does this.
