Hi all. First post so be gentle ?…I picked up my MG5 on Monday and absolutely love it. I am up to speed on charging in Scotland as I signed up for the Charge Place Scotland card and most places are free. Also have a home charger due to be installed shortly. My question relates to England as I’m driving to Manchester next month. I have downloaded the Zap Map app so as I can find charging points. When you go into each location, there’s different pricing for members, contactless and PAYG. Is the member rate applicable to Zap Map or BP Pulse? Do I need to sign up with BP pulse and Zap Map?

Also, my range is long range so around 250miles but Zap Map is saying only 200 and that I’ll need to stop to charge. The journey is around 225 miles, will I do it on 1 charge? If not, when should I stop? Halfway or closer to Manchester?

Thanks all

Hi, BP have different rates for members etc. Zapmap just shows you where they are.
Have you got the Electric Juice card from Octopus Energy as it does not charge pre authorization fees and goes on to your account. It covers a number of charge networks.
If you are going to use rapid chargers go between 20-80%

The actual range you will get will depend on a whole host of factors- speed, weather conditions, heating on/ off etc etc. Even in the long range I wouldn't risk a 225 mile journey on one charge personally. I feel a slight fraud not actually having my long range yet, but this is based on driving a 30kwh Nissan Leaf for the past few years. I would aim to do around 170 /180 miles or thereabouts then charge to 80% so that when you arrive you will still have quite a bit of charge left.

Certainly be cautious now it's colder, but it's amazing how far you can extend your range by driving carefully. I'd plan a stop at around 175 miles but be prepared to skip it if it turns out not to be necessary. On the other hand, it's probably also worth looking earlier in the journey because bladder range might well be shorter.

Stick with the 200 miles range when planning, leave the extra 50 as a buffer in case you need to go hunting a working charger.
