Going for my service next week and I want to be clued up as when I originally called them they had no idea that the EV needed software updates (this is a main MG dealer too!). I've since found out they have a new team so 'hopefully' better trained, however, they couldn't tell me if my car has already had a service or not, despite them being online now (As much as I'm all for moving online, there are some things which should be kept on paper!).

As far as I know, it has not had a service, it's a 2019 MG ZS EV on just over 22,000 miles. Are these the updates I should need? And can anyone give any more details such as; are the dates correct? How do I know if it's had the update (what does it fix?)?

Comfort 2 update (07/2020) – unlocked AC charging, range always on instrument pack, vehicle temp in instrument pack, volume maintained after powering off/switching back on.

SA0010 (08/2020)- HV fuse update

SA0015- (08/2020)- BMS update- 450v once charged (currently 455/456v- old BMS)

SA0016 (02/2020) – driver’s door wiring loom recall

SA0017 (07/2020) - Battery protection software update

SA0020 (15/06/21) – infotainment update: Reduce lag & improve responsiveness

Thanks.

Hi Chris.
I would have thought your car would had at least one service or it will be due for its second now !.
Some of these dealers don’t have a central data base for service work, warranty work is kept on record by MG,
I would try and find out who supplied the car because they may have done the first service ?.
It’s important that the service record is complete, to up hold the T&C’s of the warranty, as I am sure you know.
I am a big fan of paper service books, but alas, they are a thing of the past now.
Regarding service software and BMS stuff updates, only the dealer has access to this info.
If I was you, I would try and source that service record TBH.
A little surprised it has not already had the Comfort 2 update either ?.
Which you have to pay for OBTW.
Again, the drivers door wiring loom recall applied to certain VIN numbered cars.
My ZS EV was in the first 1,000 deliveries and mine had the loom replaced under warranty.
My guess is that you are running on the original factory BMS software.
Nothing wrong with that, if the car is running fine !.
Most of the other SA numbers you quote where superseded with the Jan15th 2021 update that removed bugs that entered the system when these previous updates where applied.
The SA 0021 is the simple head unit update applied via a USB stick to help with the info screen crashing.
Updating the latest BMS can be a difficult decision to make.
If you car is performing fine, then some owners have opted to leave well alone.
If you decide to have it done, then I strongly recommend that you give to a dealer that have done this update successfully on other cars !.
It’s one of them, if it’s applied correctly, then your golden !.
If it’s done incorrectly, that’s whole new world of pain !.
Choose wisely is my best advice I can offer, or leave well alone.

Thanks for your advice and info. I've had a right time since getting the car. Evans Halshaw didn't have a clue about anything when I bought the car and then the MG dealership didn't know anything either so it's been a case of 'figure it out by yourself', unfortunately.

Sad, but fairly typical TBH.
Who was the supplying dealer ?.
Has the car any evidence of the supplying dealer ?.
Supplying dealers like to put stickers ( pet hate ) in the back window or across the bottom of the number plates ?.
If so, give them a call and ask them if they have any record of any service history.

Arrrr Evans Halshaw ?, bought a car from them once. Never, ever...ever....ever...again.

Yes dealer stickers in the back window is pet hate of mine too.

I must say after the first service on my 20 plate zs ev the other day the MG dealership gave zero feedback as to what had been done or any software updates compared to my last car a Kia Niro.

Bolton Kia gave you a folder with everything that had been done & it was documented to the last detail for you to keep for your own records, The service took around two hours so instead of sitting in the waiting room for two hours I took myself off for a train ride as it was next door to the train station courtesy of my free old farts travel pass for a few hours. By the time I got back (two hours later) the MG technician had gone & nobody was available to give me any idea what software updates had or hadn't been done, I found out when I plugged in at home that it still needed to be locked to accept a charge!!! I thought the software update would rectify that?

I am guessing that you are running on the original factory BMS then ?.
Did you ask them to upgrade the BMS ?.
They should do it automatically, but they seldom do is my experience.
When the BMS update is done, there is another tick box operation to be done on another module, that WILL allow the car to charge on A/C with the doors open.
This is an easy part of the update to miss, by all accounts ?.
My guess is they have not applied any updates to your car.
Your HV battery voltage and predicted range after a full charge and balance will give you an indication if they have done the BMS update.
Why don't they take a leaf out of the Tesla tech's book, where the Tech working on your car, will call you directly and to speak about your car on "One to One" basis ?.
Absolutely brilliant idea, come on MG follow this initiative.

Here is a better explanation of the BMS / Lock - Unlock on A/C situation taken from the MG EV OWNERS CLUB.

Charging unlocked/locked update for ZSEV

The ZSEV has always supported unlocked charging on CCS (rapid chargers) and in 2020 a software update was released to add this function to charging on type 2 (6.6 kWh fast chargers). You are less likely to want to sit in your car for this slower charging, although it can still be occasionally useful. This is a side update to the BMS update: specifically to the EVCC module of the car. Once this is installed, the car will charge both locked or unlocked.

Just charged to 100% & let it balance which took about 15 minutes & they didn't do any software updates on it's first service (20 plate) It still needs to be locked to charge and is still on the original 455v. £56 low mileage service, No teddy bear & will the AA cover be automatically applied? because nowt was said.
Just connected it up to the OBD scanner after the full charge & took a screenshot.

See - I did not need to read any further, other than reading the quote above.
This already tells me that you are running on the original factory software due to the very short balance time :ROFLMAO: .
Your MG Assistance renewal should be automatic.
If you require confirmation, you can call the MG Assistance number and ask them to verify that you are still covered.
They can track it quickly from your registration number.
Ref the "Morris The Bear" - if the dealer has stock, they will hand over one IF you ask.
If they are out of stock ( happened to me once ) then MG will post you one out.
You are a low mileage user at only 961 miles covered, that's for sure !.
Looking at the OBD screen shot photo, it suggests the HV battery was not fully charged at 96.9 ?.
I would not expect the SOH of the HV battery, to be any lower than 100% given the low mileage.

Forgot to mention the 'Regen limited' or words to that effect warning came up on the dashboard after the 100% charge. The other 100% charges I've done over the 12 months I've owned it have always shown that lower reading of 96.9 on the OBD scanner.
