MG5 LR Kers 3 recall, I have had my LR for just over five weeks all going well and pleased with the car. I put my registration into the government recall web page, and my car did not come up as requiring a recall. I had already had a relation follow me down a straight road in a 70 speed limit area. I accelerated to over 60 and took my foot off the accelerator pedal while in Kers 3, I did this twice and was told, that over hands free phone that the brake light didn’t come on, but when the brake pedal was applied they did.
I took my car into the dealership today, to have the green flash plates put, they had not done this on delivery of the car, I had also described in detail what I had done regarding the Kers 3 issue prior to booking in and asked for them to check it out.
On picking the car up after 3 Hours, plates sorted ? but told software was up to date and systems ok, when asked if they had physically tested the car on the road with a driver behind, the answer was in the negative ?, I questioned why as this was a safety issue, and was told they had not got enough staff. I stated that was not good enough, and I wanted it checked. They agreed to contact MG and discuss and book the car back in when they get suggestions from MG. Has anybody else had issues like this?

What percentage was the battery when you did the test and did you see what '-' current was showing on your display?
Hi, thanks for the question.
Sorry can’t remember battery level, but it certainly wasnt near 100%, as for current on display didn’t look. Does the battery level/current usage have any significance? Excuse my ignorance ?

It used to be that KERS wouldn't activate fully if the battery was too full - probably as there was no where to store the generated electricity. This may have been more of an issue with the ZS prior to the BMS update which (I think) now allows more of a buffer over the 100% charge level.

I got my software updated at Frasers Of Falkirk - I've not checked that it's working, assumed it was as they'd done quite a few. I'll keep any eye on cars behind though and see if any of them glow red when I lift off next night time drive.

Thanks for the reply, yes that’s how I first noticed that it was not working, watching for a glow when a white van was behind me.

I received my MG5 EV LR in December - I read this thread and assumed my vehicle would have had the update done. I take it this still needs to be checked?
I have KERS 3 on by default (obvs not actually default as it won't do that - I just switch it at startup) and in city driving the deceleration isn't that strong. When should the brake lights come on? Just at highway speeds?

Thanks for the response, my car was delivered early December as well. Don’t know what the limits are on speed, but Government website gives the information attached, this is accelerating de acceleration figure, do not know what this relates to in MPh, I hope some boffin on the forum might know.

My SR was done weeks ago. The brake light coming on was easily visible (in the dark) on the bottom of the rear wiper. Or in mirrors when going down a country lane didn't need a follower. Point re SOC is well made, mine seems variable, sometimes I get regen even at 100% or if after a long charge and balance it may not work until down to 97%

The light should come on at any speed if the deceleration is greater than 1.3m/s2. I.e the quicker you slow down the more likely the light would come on (subject to it working that is).

Watch for their devilish eyes glowing red in the mirror ??

Having balanced my battery today I can confirm that KERS3 doesn't engage at 100%.
Thanks for the information, that is very interesting, have noticed that it does vary in de acceleration, but I thought I was imagining it. Will do further checks?

My first experience of this was last week, early one morning dropping my grandson off to school. Started on 100%, foggy morning, noticed almost acceleration when I took my foot off accelerator. Car was in KERS 2, assumed afterwards it wasn’t accelerating but actually not decelerating they way I expected it would,
An eerie feeling and it continued until under 97%. has anyone else had this if so we should all be prepared for it as it could lead to a bump.

Hi, thanks for the response, can’t say I have experienced that but will look out for it?

You will have to drop to 95-97% before you can put it into kers3?
That is so with my 5SR. Just as an extra, I drive my 5 in Kers 3 all the time and when I drove my wife's manual petrol Toyota Yaris the other day I was mildly surprised that when I took my foot off the throttle the car simply carried on until I remembered to apply the brakes. It came as a bit of a jolt to have to remember how to drive the blooming thing, and to remember to change gear!! It just shows how quickly you can get into driving habits. I must remember next time........
