It's by design, unfortunately. I would call it an industry usability problem since I've driven a lot of models and this kind of we-know-better-than-the-user behaviour is common.

No personal experience. Logic dictates that it should be less difficult than a diesel because your car has more torque, and doesn't eat of the thinner air. Perhaps there's something in the manual about steeper slopes or the like?
I don't think I have used speed limiting, it's always cruise control. The downside with the pilot is that it's lazy... it can easily climb several km/h over the set speed, and it does very little to get back in the legal zone again.
Yes, I'm using that too. Doesn't feel very intuitive though. But maybe I should just accelerate head on when parking, waiting for the Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system to kick in :ROFLMAO:
