Unless you did a lot of traveling in less than two years, or you in the mafia ?, the seats should definitely not look like that. Our older car, different brand and model obviously, does not have any tear at any of seven seats traveling 333.000 km with a family of six plus dog!
I would claim the faux leather to be a faulty material from the factory, of sub-par quality.

The car is 26,000 miles (42,000km)

Normal commute and family mileage at the weekend.

Just wanted to see if many other have the same issue?

Definitely something I worry about... You should try claiming under the warranty but be prepared to hear "no" for an answer... The photo looks like it was a scrape and not worn out. Wear and tear normally starts where you rub the most sitting down and getting out, and that would be where the red stitching is in your photo...

I've got a similar issue developing in my 70 plate ZS, namely splitting along the outside of the seat bolster.

Really would have expected it to last longer than 40,000 miles.

I’ve just checked and discovered three tiny flaps in the material in my drivers seat squab on the right hand side, and I’ve only drive 26k miles so far.
Please let me know how you get on claiming under warranty if you go down that avenue?

I have a 2020 ZS that I have only driven 7300 miles in and the front drivers seat too showed signs of cracking in the material on both the back and seat bolsters. I mentioned this to my MG Dealer in Burnley and they fobbed it off as just a crease in the upholstery where I had been sitting, but was NOT covered under warranty.

My MG ZS EV is booked in on 3rd July to assess my warranty claim for the seat material cracking

. We’ll see how the franchise responds. I know the splits aren’t very big yet, but it doesn’t bode well for the future…

yes, they will get worse and worse .. something I'm increasingly worried about; after seeing some posts about seats, I was paying attention to how I get in and out of the car and I can see why it happens so often, that fold takes the hit each time we get in ...
now, what's the solution ...???

Plenty of seats available from well know auction sites.
My car at 20k miles and 4 years does not seem to show any signs of wear as yet.

Has anyone successfully claimed under warranty? I understand the interior is only covered for 12 months.

We have a 70 plate ZS EV which we bought with 1,000 miles on and no seat damage! The car's now done just under 17,000 miles and the driver's seat looks like this.

I think the options are:
  • Speak to the dealer but I'm not optimistic.
  • Get the seat repaired - my guy says he's not sure how long a repair will last though as the fake leather is very, very thin.
  • Try to find a second hand seat. I want electric and heated though to match the original.
What have other people done?

If teh warranty says 12 months for interior, I wouldn't hope for much ... Mine is 2022 second hand with 43,000 miles and the seats still look like new...
If I were you, I wouldn't waste money on second hand car seat and maybe I wouldn't even bother repairing it until it's time to sell it ... there are fairly convincing seat covers on AliExpress to mask it .
I'm thinking to get something like this to prevent rubbing on the seat too much

Also, came across this thread about seat care :

And some advice from manufacturer of one of the products (which I'm not gonna get ???)

Note where they say : "Big brittle and cracked surfaces are unrepairable. Such damage occurs often after 2 to 4 years in the contact areas. Such damage can only be repaired in the beginning. But as these damages worsen quickly, no real help is possible. Cover such areas with blankets to reduce the wear."

I’m so very very disappointed with MG. I’ve done less than 30k in my MG ZS EV and yet my driver seat is splitting. (See photos) I took it to an MG franchise albeit not the one I purchased my new vehicle from, and was sadly told the seats only have a twelve month warranty! I’ve had 29 cars during my long driving experience and have driven high mileage for most of my career, well in excess of 100k in several of my cars. Never have I ever experienced seating material splitting previously!
The MG franchise kindly issued me with an estimate (See attached ) for rectifying the fault for £435.34 whilst rejecting my complaint/claim‼️
Surely car seats should be more durable than this. I am aware that there are many other MG ZS EV owners complaining of similar faults. Ad. See it, there are three options available to me to clear this complaint:-
1) Do nothing and continue complaining on social media,
2) Take a ‘class action’ against MG. This requires many MG ZS EV complainants to band together,
3) Present ‘Trading Standards’ with my/our problem and they are likely to agree the seats are not sufficiently robust and therefore fall below the standards required to be sold in the UK.
It’s a great shame because I really like my MG, but their after sales service is woefully lacking!
I shall be interested to read members comments.
