Second Year Service

It depends on your dealer. You'll have to ring round and see who offers the best price.

Remember although you can have it serviced at an independent garage they won't be able to do any software updates or renew the MG Assist breakdown cover.
 
About the only extra item different to the first service was brake fluid change. As I said on another thread - I'm of the opinion that they should test for water content and change it if needed and not just change it as routine.

The change of fluid isn’t a problem. Charging £180 quid for it though.. not your fault but just saying.

I'm going in for a second service next week, just had a call to confirm and they told me there is no brake fluid change in the low mileage service plan (3 year plan with RRG) - now my service sheet from last year clearly states it is required after 2 years or 30k miles whichever is sooner, although the service schedule on the MG website says it is only ever "recommended" for low mileage.
Does this sound right? I'm just over 16k miles

Whaaaat ?? how do you expect them to pay staff wages and fill the coffee machine without making up unnecessary jobs ?? Shame on you.
 
I paid around £95 for my 2nd year service last month (low mileage, just hit 14k now)...... helps an auld mate works in the service department though.

EDIT: Just checked my paperwork, (and to rub it in)
1st year was £69.36
2nd year was £90.32

with AA extension.

did they do a brake fluid change though?? I meant to mark my pollen filter before going in tomorrow but forgot, might do it in the morning if I get time

Just checked, no fluid change, only the pollen filter was done.

Had yours done yet dave99?

yeah no brake fluid change or key battery change - checklist clearly says 2 years/30k miles whichever is sooner, and when I questioned it they said thats just the full service sheet, they don't have a separate low mileage service sheet. I really just wanted to know when it needs to be changed (I can only assume it doesn't affect warranty) but all she could say was "its optional - probably be £50 for the fluid and half an hour labour."

Funnily enough they did change the pollen filter, which was also on the checklist as 2 years or 30k miles, and that wasn't ticked as being done but I checked and it was new.

battery SOH still at 100% after nearly 17k miles.
tyres is a funny one - my fronts seem to have gained rubber :censored:
Front L 4.3mm R 4.9mm
Rear L 3.4mm R 3.2mm

last year - 8000 miles ago...
Front L3.9mm 4.4mm
Rear L3.8mm 3.9mm
 
The car has done 6500 miles.

I have a three year plan with Vic Young in South Shields. I pay £6.80 a month. Just had my 2nd year service, which i specifically asked them if they do the Brake Fluid, pollen Filter and key fob battery as part of this service. Which they confirmed would be done.

Looking at the sheet it’s all been ticked as done as part of my service plan. I also asked for the sheet for the annual corrosion inspection, item 37 on the check list, which they gave me.

AA also renewed for another year.

So all done for £6.80 a month.

Two comments.
Just to put things into perspective, our neighbour has just had her Volvo ICE car second year service. It cost over £800.
The other comment was that we were offered a 3 year service plan when we bought Goth Leo. These sound suspiciously like those "extended warranties" you get offered when you buy a £2.50 torch, but we went for it. It was just under £400. We wondered if it would be worth while, but decided that roadside assistance would cost more than that, so went for it. It will be interesting to see if they find additional charges come second and third year services - yes, I'm looking at you, brake pads...
 
They tried the brake pads/discs thing with me at the second service last month ... I politely declined. If they'd pushed it I'd have complained that it should be a warranty item, as 2 years 8.6k miles should not degrade brake pads/discs - if it does then they were fundamentally flawed in design/quality. :)
 
Just been ringing around to book in my ph1 Trophy 2nd service at 20k miles).

The dealer I got it from (Gallagher's of Sandycroft) - No slots until new year, £218.30 :eek:
Holdcroft (Cheshire Oaks) - 8:30am this Friday, £130-ish! :D

The good news is that Holdcroft also mentioned software updates without prompting! :cool:
