Why do MG4's have very high second-hand prices (UK)?

Is there an MG4 buyer's guide on here - I did a search but didn't find anything? I found a few you-tubes about issues, but they seem to be lacking in detail - for example they don't mention from what date of manufacturing do the oil leak, under-tray warping, steering vibration and aggressive LKA issues become resolved.

There's everything thing on here about the MG4, good and bad. It's just a matter of having a good look. Search function is helpful. It really helped me before and since I got my MG4. 🙂👍

And the daft thing is any business user will get charged BIK on the RRP of £37,000 not the price they had to pay.
Yeah ... whatever is listed as the P11D value. That said, BIK is only 2% so you'd pay tax on a benefit of £740 per year. Even at 40% tax band that's only £296 per year, or <£25 per month. :)

This is currently sitting in my drive (courtesy car).

That's less than I paid for my SE SR nineteen months ago.

Surely MG are well on track for the EV mandate, though?

Their pricing must be putting serious pressure on the other manufacturers, though.

Hard to justify spending so much more just because of badge snobbery.

For us it was between an MG4 an E-208. Got a lot more car for the same money.

Of course this price juggling is not just MG. Where I work just started offering Costco memberships. As a Costco member there is a (claimed) £9,000 saving on the price of a new Renault Megane e-tech

Bear in mind folks that what you might pay at a dealer for a secondhand MG4 isn't what you'd get at trade-in.

I've been watching the auctions and low mileage 23 plate MG4 SEs are going for about £15-16k, Trophies only a couple of thousand higher.

My own car is now worth about the same at auction after 20 months as its 4-year 40k MGFV! Should be an interesting conversation if we bid to buy it for less.

So second hand prices are not high either, although new prices are artificially squeezed by MGs huge discounts, so used look expensive by comparison.

I have heard MG is struggling to hit the EV percentage mandate because they sell an awful lot of cheap petrol cars.

Maybe, but if you believe the DM, the link @rpannell posted in post #3 stated...
"With over a quarter (27 per cent) of MG's UK new car sales being EVs, according to the Electric Car Count, its parent company, SAIC, is theoretically almost adhering to the ZEV mandate's requirement for 2027. It instead suggests MG is discounting to stay competitive in the market."

Apparently the HS is the 9th biggest selling car this year. Who knew!

The dealerships I visited reported the MG4 being the big seller. But maybe the 3 and HS have changed that somewhat. Also I live in a relatively affluent part of the country so maybe we have more BEVs around here.

On the other hand, it might be driven by leasing and hire companies - I think that the HS might be popular with hire companies because they are so cheap and they haven't got the wherewithal (and customers don't have the knowledge) to provide fully electric yet.

When i got my X Power couple months back when the lease deals were at there peak the broker told me MG were giving 39% discount to the leasing company to help shift EV’s to meet mandate.
No idea if that is correct or not.
