MG4 Ticking/Rattling Noise Coming From Behind The Steering Wheel

Well, I managed to change the right front bearing. The m12 triple square bolts were incredibly tight so I removed the whole carrier from the strut to get access, the bearing was a bit seized to the aluminium so just as well I think.
Good news though, it has cured the clicking !:) Holding the old bearing in my hand I can feel a sort of 'tapping' from it as it's turned although it doesn't make any noise as such, the new one was smooth to turn by hand as expected.

Levered the rear cover from the bearing to see if anything was obviously broken inside but all that's visible is the magnetic ring for the wheel sensor which looks fine.

These cars do tend to make funny noises, so it is hard to tell if there is a problem. My MG5 PFL makes a ticking noise but when stationary - no idea what it is but at this point I am not concerned. My Lexus hybrid makes all sorts of strange noises at times.

It's such a wonderful news. I’ll try to confirm if the source of the sound is indeed from this, and I’ll inform the service accordingly. I hope I can resolve it this way too. I'm really glad you've gotten rid of that annoying sound!

Hope you can get you issue solved by MG under warranty.

It is a very annoying noise when cruising around at lower speeds, spoils the experience of driving an EV to be honest .
I'm just wondering how long the passenger side bearing will last now, I think it must be a bad batch of bearings fitted to earlier built cars :unsure:
At least it's fairly simple to change, a competent workshop should be able to do it in an hour with access to a lift, I did it in around 2 hours rolling around on my driveway :giggle:

Really do appreciate the feedback that you have given here, I believe that it is so valuable for MG4 owners like us who are desperately trying to find a solution for our issues.

I'm also in contact with "sherlockmeisida" who is in close proximity. We'll try to localise the sound as you have suggested, and if it is audible somewhere from that vicinity we'll possibly try to force the MG service center for a replacement.

Have you been able to go to the MG service? I would appreciate it if you could inform me once a solution is reached on the issue.
 
well.....another one with the same noise from the video.

Apart from the brave colleague who changed the bearing, has anyone managed to get an MG workshop to solve this noise?

Our forum member Submariner visited the service center last month, suspecting that the noise might be coming from the bearing. The service team removed the tire for inspection and confirmed that the noise was indeed coming from the bearing. To test this further, the bearing from the MG4 test vehicle at the service center was installed Submariner's mg4, and the noise was eliminated, confirming the issue. Following this, the replacement part was ordered and is expected to be installed next week. If the noise is resolved, I plan to visit the same service center as well. We will share updates on the outcome.

Has anyone found a solution to this issue? Did MG take care of the problem?
 
In which service center was this performed?
Is there an approval for the subject from MG Global?

At my service center they are not ready to handle the problem because they don't know where it comes from

There is no internationally confirmed complaint regarding this situation. It is the first time they are encountering such a case in Turkey. However, thanks to a friend on the forum, we kindly requested the service to look into it, and after their investigation, they were convinced that the issue originated from there. The service we mentioned is located in Ankara, Turkey.

Hello, my car is an MG4 Luxury with 21,000 km on it. At 20,000 km, a ticking noise started coming from behind the steering wheel. The noise appears at around 15 km/h and becomes inaudible at 60 km/h. It is definitely not a trim noise; it's a mechanical sound, but I haven't been able to figure...

Sorry for the late feedback, but it took the MG Service Center a terribly long time to get the spare parts available. Finally everything has been solved and I'm driving as quiet as a mouse and in peace... :)

Yes, the noise was definitely from the Hub Assembly just as "Macadoodle" had confirmed at the beginning. So once again I would like to THANK HIM SO MUCH for the feedback he has provided here. If it weren't for his feedback, I think I wouldn't have been able to "convince" the stubborn mechanics at the MG Service Center (and myself to be frank) that the noise was from the hubs. The video below is from the workshop recordings as aforementioned. The typical sound from behind the damn steering wheel...:



So, I hope everyone who has the same problem will also be able to get the issue resolved via a local MG Service Center.

PS:
Since my car was still under warranty I personally didn't have to pay for anything, but as far as I understand these hubs do tend to malfunction after about 15.000 km, so if you do suspect an issue, react ASAP.

@Macadoodle I also need to change my bearing on MG 4 but i can't find part number for the bearing itself. I want to buy parts before disasembly, i only found Skf Bah 0043 Cx but it says its for MG 5 and i don't know if it's compatiable.

Does Saic take responsibility for this problem? Is there an official document?

The Dealer in Israel cannot find the fault after disassembling the wheel.
He is not ready to disassemble the bearing because he has no proof that this is the solution to the problem

pls help
