It may well be completely normal. My guess is that it is continuing balancing at zero charging current. So you might end up at 99.8% SoC, where it would have been at 100.0% if you left the charge plug in and turned on.I’ve never heard of the badge light staying on when disconnected and closed…
Could it have lost an earth connection perhaps? I'm clutching at straws now.
Terry - out of interest did you have any issues with your charger RCBO tripping out before this issue started happening? We had a few interrupted charges, due to a faulty charger RCBO which I've now replaced, but it did mean the charge process cut out a few times from the charger end (hence ungraceful, from the car's perspective). I'm wondering if this is related to the incorrect badge illumination.
That's an interesting point. Stopping the charge mechanically under load causes a big spike of voltage, which could damage the On Board Charger (OBC). I imagine that the badge lights are controlled by the EV Charge Controller (EVCC), but it might be the OBC.
I'm guessing that the car actually will turn off normally, after some 10-20 minutes, and at that point, I'd expect the badge LEDs to go out and no longer drain the auxiliary battery. But if the LEDs don't go out, a simple solution would be to disconnect the cable to the LEDs. Unless that also disconnects the switch that senses the charge port being open. Hopefully the fault can get fixed under warranty, so this would be a short term workaround.
