MG4 X Power Vibe/Hum 65 to 75mph

Just had the steering damper on mine replaced under warranty (UK, new car June this year). The vibration is now just a slight hum really but still there. Although I do have an annoying rattle they thought this would fix that is still there. Not had an issue with the tyres in wet or dry, only done 8k miles so far though.

What is the build date of your car, @JamesH65? (It'll be on the CoC in a plastic wallet in the glovebox - if you have it - or can be estimated from the sticker on the bottom of your parcel shelf ... build date will be a few days later than the parcel shelf date).

You say you got the car in June '24, but it may have been built way earlier.

From Lampymic in a PM this morning....

Morning Bricktop1967,
Have you noticed any vibration, although vibration might be the wrong word possibly a buzzing sensation when reaching 68+ on the motorway? I really noticed it on Thursday on a quick trip down the M55, wondering if you’ve noticed anything seeing as you’ve had yours longer.

Cheers

Morning Mike
Yes I have m8.
I've mentioned it a few times in various posts.
I find it at anything between 65-75 mph.

Dealer knows nothing (obviously!)

I am still in a bit of a quandary about what to do about it.
I mean it's not terrible, but should a brand new car have anything like this?
I've never had another car start Vibing at me before.
This is the weekend when I decide whether to reject it or not.

From Lampymic

Thank you, I’ll start a thread on it when I get back from the picket line, today is a very expensive day off!
It’s interesting that you’ve got it too, it’s clearly an issue that dealers should be aware of. I’m going to give them a call to ask them to chase it up with MG, I’ll tell them I’m not happy with the car doing it and we shall see what happens.

To be honest LKA isn’t causing me that many issues at all, the roads around me are so poor it can’t detect the lane it’s supposed to be keeping me in!

I feel a bit bad not waiting for Lampymic to start this thread, but he's busy on a very worthy cause.
Any abuse will be gladly received.?

There are only a few of us with X Powers at the moment but it already seems to be inherent in all of them

Interestingly, at 75mph it's almost non existent in my vehicle.
Now I of course realise, that I should not have to break the law in order to have a smoother, vibe free ride.....
"Yes officer, I do have to go a bit faster as my car has been hastily engineered to get it to market"
My car vibrates at that speed on an MG4 Trophy long range. I put the KERS on adaptive and it stops it

Some of my parts for the fix are still on back order!!

Fingers crossed i will see it fixed early in the new year !!

After the change in tyres its done nothing really other than help the handling and grip by ALOT !!

Still getting the vibe over 100km/h /62mph and its still randomly getting worse over the 120 130km/h mark ..

It feels strange to me anything that is out of balance will progressively get worse the faster you go correct!!

yet there are times where it smooths out over 120km/h and other times where it just gets worse and worse the faster i go !!

I have my suspicions on how the issue has been reduced in new models, i mean March '24 onward builds.

1. Software synchronisation is one, eg turn front motor off in eco and vibration (resonance) causes vibes to appear when at highway speeds.

2. technique of using steering motor to stiffen at highway speed, reducing feedback, along with possible use of dampener (this is why u can still hear he shudder but not feel).

3. Engine mounts. Reduce body contact some more.

I believe a lot of the "mine doesnt have vibs issue" is perception based on use cases too.

SAIC have moved away from any MG4 R&D now. New year new cars.

I’m keen to hear how the mods improve your car, I’ve only had my XP a couple of months and the front vibe cannot be doing any good for the front CVs and motor.

I’m booked in to get the fix done on the 4th of February at another MG dealership all the parts are getting shipped there so fingers crossed this solves the problem !!

Will update after the fix done..

If all goes well I can get my lowering done soon after 👍👍😊

Good luck with the fix .... I hope it works for you. The Facebook group reports mixed results with the full rear parts fix. It certainly involves a lot of labour work by the sound of it. Some say it has fixed it and others say it has changed the speed at which it occurs.

GOOD REPORT

Summary of the situation:

My XP from October 2023 experienced the vibrations described by several of us.
It started vibrating at 70 km/h, and after replacing the steering damper (a mandatory step), the vibrations in the steering wheel decreased and instead appeared at around 90 km/h. This intervention clearly showed that it wasn’t just the steering wheel vibrating, but the car itself.
I also noticed a sort of rumbling sound inside the car.
Following the release of the MG technical bulletin, I forwarded it to my workshop, MG Cavallari in Nice.
To the great surprise of the workshop manager, there was no trace of this bulletin in France, and he expressed frustration about learning of it from a customer instead of directly from MG.
This workshop had already dealt with a vibrating XP at low speeds in early 2024. The owner returned less than a week after delivery, stating the car was undrivable. According to the mechanic, “it was impossible to drive like that.” Their diagnosis identified a failure in the engine mounts, which MG accepted under warranty, and the results were positive. The customer was satisfied.
I suspect this prior experience in the Nice workshop helped my case to be approved by MG under warranty, given the technical bulletin supports this diagnosis.
To my knowledge, no one else in the group has had a warranty approval for this issue so far.
Nice was waiting for my feedback to confirm whether the intervention was successful or if they needed to proceed with step 3—replacing the subframe if vibrations persisted.
This was completed today. After testing daily over a week, including at speeds where the vibrations previously occurred and even at high speeds on a familiar road (up to 160 km/h), I shared the following conclusions with the workshop:

    • First point: The rumbling sound during daily driving has disappeared, except on rough roads, where I believe it's just feedback from the wheels over uneven surfaces.
    • Second point: The car no longer vibrates at all, as confirmed by me and the technician who tested it with me and had previously noticed the vibrations before the intervention.
For your information, I’m no longer using the original tires.
The workshop will now report back to MG France, which I assume will validate this solution. However, I’m not sure how long MG will take to process their feedback—it’ll probably be at least another week.
In the meantime, you can share this information with your respective workshops.
I haven’t yet received an invoice or intervention report, as I assume it will only be issued once the warranty case is officially closed.
If MG rejects the warranty claim despite these findings, your workshops can contact Nice directly using my name; they’ll know which car it is, given how many times I’ve been there. Fortunately, I live nearby.
That said, I don’t know if Nice will respond to everyone due to their busy schedule, so your workshops should start by reaching out to MG France first.

ohh well if it doenst fix it consumer affairs here i come for sure this time !!

Aussie consumer law is nasty nasty businesses have less rights than consumers most of the time here !

I also think the service manager at my MG dealership was told to order a final drive something so maybe there something else they realized that need to be fixed ..

maybe me being over optimistic about what is going to be fixed !!!

either way i think at this point after my failed contact on 4 occasions from MG AUSTRALIA i will not be buying another MG ill go to BYD or another company..

Maybe even tesla rather pay the extra for a better serviced car ..

The new juniper model Y looks very nice !!

MG AUS chat said they will respond with in 24 hours on each occasion its been over a week even my email sent myself was acknowledged with a return email we will be in contact soon ..

still a week later nobody has responded !!

Funny though this will come back to bite them eventually i think !!

Sure they can have the cheapest EVs on the market but with disgusting service people will ultimately buy other better serviced cars even if more expensive !!

like closing down my dealership Ferntree Gully MG that i ended up at quality work quality staff great place!!

BUT the place Ringwood MG where i bought the car from ive had NO after sales service help for updates or my fix yet remains open..

The mind just boggles to what type of company MG actually is these days !!

Wow, huge amount of work with no result !! Not at all suprised that MG are extremely reluctant to do anything about the problem, ooops sorry, "characteristic"

Wheels in motion and should see some progress soon.
What's on your drive now?
(And don't say an Ioniq 5 N!)🤣
Very tempted by the 5N but can't afford it :-(
Currently have a secondhand Genesis GV60 Sport.

Hope you get the result you want in the not too distant future.
