MG5 SE LR
Two months and 1800 miles into my MG5 SE experience I’m generally quite happy. This is intended to be a long term car (at least beyond the pcp and up to warranty expiry).
As my dealer experience has been less than excellent I am planning to use Cleevely for my servicing. They state this is warranty safe, and I believe they will act for me unlike the franchises.
I just thought it would be useful to start a thread to see if anyone can add whatever they might have needed doing under warranty, and if it’s really necessary to use the MG network. I have pre existing breakdown cover so that’s ticked off.
Mods: please relocate or edit this thread as you see fit.

So far I've had a suspension strut replacement under warranty
At the moment my seat is being investigated and possibly replaced under warranty as well due to a broken pivot bolt.

Both times I have to say I've had a good experience, a bit slow for the decision, but the garage has kept me informed all the way along the process (mg crawley)

The charge port in my first MG5, the terminals got corroded and it wouldn't charge because it thought there was a fault (high resistance on a control pin I believe).

MG4 1st gen SE with the black windows.

4 visits for boot leak
1 for NSF track rod end failed
SW updates including for head unit not showing temperature.

12k miles only

Exterior Temperature Sensor.

Full debacle here....

I had the passenger door handle replaced under warranty because the unlock button ceased to do its job. Had to wait 2 weeks for the part and another 2 weeks because the painter had gone on holiday.

CCU replacement is my main hardware item.

I had to pay to replace a broken driver's footrest (not covered by warranty as after 12 months) and I have driver's seat leather cracking (also not covered after 12 months). I also had a rattling bootlid that the dealer could not fix, so I had to fix that
myself.

Numerous trips for software updates to try to fix issues. Probably 6 in 2 years?

The warranty has a bunch of exclusions and limited time items. Strongly urge reading it thoroughly (same for all MG EVs).

Today after coming home and pressing the drivers side button to lock the car, like a million times before yields nothing but a mushy messy. The button has completely failed and will be added to my complaint/job list for the vehicle when I can get hold of the dealership...

MG4 Trophy delivered on 18/12/24 with no horn. Driving around the North Circular without is frightening!!
At Glynn Hopkins now getting it fixed. Honk honk!

Not fixed - Glynn Hopkins require permission from MG to undertake warranty work and will need the car for a day as the back bumper assembly needs to be removed to gain access to the part that needs replacing.
Waiting for the email to book it in....😒

Bulldog Twyford are a good bet for you too. They lost their sales franchise so can be absolutely honest with you. Great for software updates & often cheaper now that Cleevely.

They were just OK as a franchise but a lot better now they're not tied down. They can tell you of work arounds, solutions etc they were not allowed to before. They remains as authorised service agents and are walking distance from Twyford Station.

As I recall this normally involves a new door handle assembly and they have to be painted to match the car colour. Worth checking your dealership know this as it has delayed / caused additional journeys for some.

I have always wondered what actually fails and if it is repairable but there's no way to know until someone gets to keep the old one and takes it apart.

There'll likely be a microswitch in the handle, and I'd guess that the plunger that activates the switch has broken. Or it's a prox sensor and the magnet/target piece has fallen off. :)

Got it in Friday so will see what they say!

Our button wasn't working when we got our car. Had to wait for dealer to get the part, paint it, forget to tell us it was ready until I rang a month later to enquire about progress...

We got the car in a cold February.

Anyway, am I right in thinking that the buttons are much more likely to fail during freezing weather?

So perhaps best not to use the button in freezing conditions if you want to save yourself the hassle of getting it replaced (and cost of replacement once the warranty expires).
