Advice on where to put a 7kW charger point

Having a tethered charger I couldn't even contemplate an un-tethered one. The ease of pulling in, unwind and plug in is so good. No rummaging for cables hidden in the boot or in the frunk plugging in both ends, packing away a mucky wet cable when done...urgh. Destination charging feels like a real hassle after home charging with a tethered. :)
I agree. I value the tethered charger on the uliity it brings me ( as described by you) and not on economics.

I have mine in the garage, just inside the door. This gives me the option of charging inside or outside the garage and keeps the unit out of the weather
I've done the same - reverse in for charging when in the garage, but an easy 'under the door' for outside or visitors.

I have on order from Octopus a charger point for the new car.
What are the views on where to put it.

I can mount it in the garage but does that impact house insurance ? To me this seems the best but my wife is concerned about fire risk. The garage is detached.
I can mount it on an external wall as some of my neighbours have.

Thanks
Hi
You have said it the garage is detached and if built of brick will contain a fire long enough for the fire brigade to get there, Attach are the number of fires for the last five years in the uk

Would be interested to know if those fires are in proportion to the number of EV in each area. Also, I wonder if that includes scooters which I would assume are more prone to problems, especially some of the cheaper imports?

These were just EV fires and London had the highest as more EV in London to any where else. EV fire makes up less than 1% of all car fires.

I had to have mine fitted on the front wall of the bungalow as to fit it in the garage would have meant digging up the drive to lay the cables to the garage all fitted by Octopus in 4 hours and very satisfied with their service..

Site guru and D Bedford Royal Berkshire 11 as to Scotland and wales 0 I think link below.

Similar to mine, only on the side of the house, half way up the drive and out of the sun. It is right by the main electrical point into the house so also meant no wires along the wall.
Thank you, I am in the process of trying to have one fitted by Octopus but I have to get the go a head from the housing association and just had to do a lot of work doing photos wright up how it will be fitted and were it would be fitted also risk assessment and documentation from octopus as I can get a grant from the government, but need a letter from the housing association before octopus will fit it.
You have just made me think I ordered the 8m Ohme pro and I would say that it would mount on the side of the house were it would not get damaged as we have a back gate and thinking we I could not mount it there as we take bins in and out and the lawnmower.
I will get a tape measure out tomorrow and check I can get to the front of the car.

It's a lesser fire risk than the ICE car you used to park in your garage, but outside would give more flexibility if say a relative was visiting and you wanted to charge one then the other without swapping which is in the garage, different chargers come with different tethered cable length options. You will also pay more for anything over 10 metres from the main circuit board.

I put mine inside the garage to protect both it and me from the weather. The cable that came with it is long enough to let me charge the car while it's sitting on the drive outside the garage door if I want to though. Fire risk is a hell of a lot less than having a petrol or diesel car sitting in there. Or runing a washing machine come to that.

I had the washing machine on the timer last night to catch some off peak. Much more dangerously I had the bread machine on its timer to produce a rye bread. About a couple of hours ago I had a really terrible panic awakening with an uncontrollable twitchy nose caused by the hot bread scent permeating through the house. I cannot resist. I have to get up to save that poor loaf from the bread pan, go through the ritual of tapping to assess its hollowness or something ? Then i throw caution to the wind and saw a slice off, coat it with marg and a Vegemite skim and vow again never to make bread overnight again 😱😱😱

At least until maybe Friday 😁

Vegemite ? I think I will stick to the British original. :)
