Our first service was about £120, now they are quoting us twice that for our second one.

I asked for breakdown of all costs and then asked to take out replacement of batteries in key fobs and to take out the replacement of pollen filter.

They still say about £200, is this high?

Also I have a question about proving full service history.

Back in my day you had a book that got stamped by the official place. Is it all digital these days? How can I prove FSH in the future?

My gut says keep the receipts. Half the time in my earlier car owning days the garages would forget to stamp the official book anyway and I just popped the service receipt/documentation in the manual case...although that doesn't exist either these days :(

Surely you get an invoice from the dealer for the service that itemises 'service' in items such as mileage, labour and consumables? If not, go back and ask for one.

Part ot that £200 is for changing the brake fluid. Not necessary in my opinion; I told the dealer to omit. £140 total.

There is a lot more required in the 2nd service so £220ish is expected and not unusual.

With hindsight and a good dealership a 3 year service plan is the way to go .

I paid £88.80 for the first 15,000 mile service at Richmond MG Portsmouth MG4 Trophy long range. Have another 4,800 miles until the next one so will see if the prices have increased then, if so I’ll look at an independent ev specialist. Should be roughly double the first service in time taken (Pollen filter, brake fluid and strangely key fob batteries). Genuine pollen filter is £20 but seen them for more at other dealerships.

Only item that is a little bit more time to complete is the brake fluid change but even that is very quick (30 mins using siphon system), the pollen filter and key fob batteries would be under 5 mins too.

just put in your details into еQuote - 2nd service should be around £218 (1st & 3rd around £114)
What does that include?

I asked not to change batteries in key tones and not to change pollen filter to reduce the cost

What else is there to do on an EV?

You just invalidated the 7yr warranty by not having it maintained correctly. Not a wise move and a false economy.
Only if the items not maintained in the service schedule directly relate to the warranty claim- for instance the brakes failing due to fluid not being replaced- it is more hassle to claim but under the consumer rights act they can’t hold a lack of scheduled services stop a warranty claim if a fault occurs within the term.

You can not say what price you are going to pay as it down to the individual garage or out let, if take it to a main dealership with a showroom then they will have a higher price that say the dealer that has lost the right to sell new cars but are still able to do services. Also where in the country you are, like in the southeast the cost will be then in Scotland. I do understand the some makes have a standard pricing for service no matter where you take the car but I think MG UK do not have this.

When I bought my car new, I also purchased a 3 year service package plus 1st MOT for £500, looks like a good buy at the time.

Did you buy a dealership one or go on the MG website and buy it there.

168 for 2nd service. 88 for first. Blights of Bideford.. I drive 50 miles to them as they are so good value and always good to deal with. This does include a small discount and they clean the car too. And free breakdown cover.
