2nd service

You just invalidated the 7yr warranty by not having it maintained correctly. Not a wise move and a false economy.
Note: According to MG4 EV service plan (online at MG Motors): less than 30000 miles, pollen filter (necessary) , brake fluid (recommended by not necessary)

Why is pollen filter necessary and brake fluid not?

Brakes are far more important

I want it to go in for a service anyway as often have trouble charging.

It shows blue lights around the charger and sometimes takes a while to turn green. Sometimes lately not turning green at all.

The orange light on the charger cable is on constantly and the little green light next to that is flashing so there is power getting to that, but the car won’t start charging.

Have you tried another charger at all?

My second service is due in August, I was quoted today £294 then £162 for the third and £328 👀for the fourth, that's Rawlinson MG in Bury St Edmunds, shame cos that's my local dealership, might get the second service done with them just to get the car registered with them for warranty work, if there is any.

My gut says keep the receipts. Half the time in my earlier car owning days the garages would forget to stamp the official book anyway and I just popped the service receipt/documentation in the manual case...although that doesn't exist either these days :(
I paid £619.00 for 4year Service Plan + 2 MOT my MG4 Xpower is 10 months old ex demo.

Only if the items not maintained in the service schedule directly relate to the warranty claim- for instance the brakes failing due to fluid not being replaced- it is more hassle to claim but under the consumer rights act they can’t hold a lack of scheduled services stop a warranty claim if a fault occurs within the term.
Don't save money by avoiding brake servicing. It can void warranty and can bite you!
Brakes corrode internally if the fluid is not changed regularly. I know because my car at the time (Triumph Dolomite) had it years ago. Fluid used to be checked for water content with a 'pass/fail' test and only changed on a 'fail' as I understand.
Also, hot brakes can boil water in the fluid (water that should not be there, of course) resulting in hydraulic pressure loss; temporary brake fade and hence failure of braking. Brake fluid slowly absorbs water from the atmosphere. That's the trouble.

Our first service was about £120, now they are quoting us twice that for our second one.

I asked for breakdown of all costs and then asked to take out replacement of batteries in key fobs and to take out the replacement of pollen filter.

They still say about £200, is this high?

Also I have a question about proving full service history.

Back in my day you had a book that got stamped by the official place. Is it all digital these days? How can I prove FSH in the future?
Hi I am in Australia and we get a book for service stamps as a record, had mine stamped on 1st service.

Try locking the car unlock and lock all with the cable attached, I had to do this for it to turn green and charge just strange 🤔

Not all that strange, when you consider that locking the car also locks the charging plug, and that seems to progress things that might have been waiting for the plug to be locked. Ok, a little strange, since if the car is waiting for the plug to be locked, it should just lock the plug itself. But maybe it's the EVSE ("charger") that is waiting for a signal that only happens when the charge plug is locked.

I find I don't need to unlock before locking; just locking the car when the doors are already locked seems to be sufficient. That's with the key fob of course, pressing the door buttons will of course unlock the doors if currently locked. The folding or not of the mirrors tells me whether the doors are locked, on my models.

Hi I am in Australia and we get a book for service stamps as a record, had mine stamped on 1st service.
The servicing records of EU registered cars have been digitised for some years now. Too many faked and illegally stamped 'service books' in the past. Much better to have the data recorded centrally with the manufacture. I had a motorcycle that I bought new in Germany that I registered in the UK. First 2 services carried out in Germany and the next in UK, no need to maintain a paper book, just git a print out from the system after each service, didn't matter if I lost those, could be issued at any time in the future. All very important during the warranty period and for future resale. None of my vehicles have physical service books any more.

When I bought my car I paid £399 for a service plan covering 3x services and first MOT. So what you've been quoted is way high.
Mmmmm
Don't think so 1st service c.£140 2nd service c.£200 3rd service and mot c.£60 seems fair on the numbers

£140 + £200 + £140 + £60 = £540 🤷‍♂️

The 3rd service plus MOT is almost certainly not only £60 🤦‍♂️

Bear in mind, that the service plans are fixed cost from when they are purchased, a service plan now may be different to when you purchased yours as every year the labour rates are increased

Re 2nd year service cost, I was quoted £199 by the supplying dealer. This included brake fluid change and key battery. I declined both, so the service has just cost me £105! Very happy with that. Blights Motors, Bideford, Devon

At least you're all getting the cars serviced - I'm frustrated at looking at second-hand ones that haven't been serviced according to the schedule.

I thought someone on here once suggested you can have MG do some sort of inspection to reinstate your warranty, but I suspect that is only if the warranty has recently lapsed, probably not after missing 3 years worth of servicing.

I guess you are looking at the cheaper end on the used MG4s. The lack of servicing is why they are cheap. Might be worth looking at the main dealers

Stoneacre have some pre-registered ones recently reduced. e.g. MD4 SE LR in red, 10 miles £19,995

For sure - I guessed that that Extended Range one for under £17,000 was too good to be true! I definitely want a Gen 2 Trophy - some are appearing around £19K at main dealers now 🤞

Just got a quote for 2nd service of £236.30, that seems quite expensive. Going to shop around, might do a drive to Bideford! This was at Drive of Weston-super-Mare. MG4 trophy
