Checking whether the PD052 update has been installed.

I'm sorry to have to say this again, the regeneration levels have nothing to do with revving, they are only there to create a stronger deceleration and thus charge the battery more when you take your foot off the accelerator. And the car tends to rev higher in sport mode because the car is designed to accelerate more strongly, which is achieved by trying to stay in parallel mode the whole time and so the electric drive always stays on power. Unfortunately, I have to say that there are few drivers with experience of hybrids and fewer who really know the structure and function of such a drive.

Funnily enough that is my post that was shared. Alas it has not been a success. Anytime I go onto a dual carriage way / motor way and drive normally, I.e. 70-77 depending on if overtaking in fast lane, it’s just a constant battle of battery draining and high revs, poor performance and having to lift my foot.

I had the car 2 months and have two majors issues.

Took the car to an MG garage 2 weeks ago and they stripped and cleaned the brakes but the squealing continued after they road tested it at the end of the day. They suggested it may be a slightly warped disc and I should bring it back in a few weeks if it continues.
I told them about the PD052 update and they assured me it had been uploaded to the car. However, the excessive revs are still as bad and frightened the life out of me this week when I tried to overtake at 50mph and there was nothing but a roar from the engine.
Not sure how to take these issues forward with the garage. Any advice welcome.

My MG zs hybrid Trophy has exactly the same issues. Purchased on 1st December 2024 and was in the garage for 30 days as little oil in sealed gear unit.
The car loses power, high revs, rarely goes into hybrid mode and squeaks from first start.
 
Mine was updated (Spain) this week. They came out with me after completed and it did seem “like new” a few days later and it is worse than before, revving at 4.5k going downhill! I’m at a loss for what to do now…

Did you get any warning lights to tell you about the oil level?

Think I’ve heard enough. I’ll be getting something else!! Long test drives in both Toyota Yaris Cross and Hyundai Kona and both performed flawlessly. Test drive in MG wasn’t great. So much to like about the car…… but I’m to nervous to own an MG. I sincerely hope you all get everything running smoothly soon.

Just for general information, I had the update installed on Thursday lady at my local dealership. I’m very pleased with the noticeable improvement in running, definitely makes a positive difference.

revving up when driving downhill is logical. When the battery is full, the engine brake is activated. You then either brake yourself or switch on the hill descent assist. The vehicle also gives a warning when the battery is full when driving downhill.

I'm really excited about the update. Today I drove through the Black Forest, up and down hills, and I always had power, even when I was overtaking. When the battery was way down, the combustion engine took over all the power, so you don't get 200hp, but at least you still get 101hp. It doesn't rev as often as before and it recharges quicker, which is because on straight stretches it uses 2200rpm instead of 1300rpm until the battery is at least half full. As I'm more of a sporty driver, I'm very happy about the update and can only recommend it.

Yes, when the battery is completely empty the engine will rev to 5000rpm when you accelerate, but that's logical given that the vehicle only has three gears.

Which seems to be working for some owners and not for others. Although, it’s difficult to determine exactly what updates owners have had installed. Not even sure the dealerships know!

Within its first 150 miles. Warning lights were Orange Not something at precheck that a mechanic would check on expecting that sealed unit of special oil to be full. Eventually that didn't solve the problem so MG advised that the electronic hydraulic gear thing be changed too.

It revs audibly badly on slow gradients and feels as if it's not selecting or deselection occasionally at higher motorway speeds. Achieving 50mpg at last, higher on some runs. Toyota Hybrid runs similarly but different.

Also now that it has done its first 1500mls I expect to see some improvements. The ZS Hybrid is great apart from that but the update as yet is not available in the UK

I noticed from your pics that you run in Eco regen 1 whereas I use Normal 2. I really need to read the manual to understand when to use each.
After 2000 miles I've achieved 46 mpg which is the same as I achieved overall in my previous MG ZS petrol.

Went up a few Welsh hills today and i think the car is worse after the PD052 update. going uphill it soon revved up to 4000 which I've never had before and car would not accelerate above 45mph. going downhill I left it in eco and regen 1 and feet off the pedals. After a few seconds engine revved up on its own accord to 3500 revs. car didn't accelerate but I had to brake to get the revs to reduce.. Car was fine on the level but it seems like there is now no power to accelerate and that the petrol engine only charges the battery??? Tried various modes but couldn't find any improvement but it was a journey home not a constant test drive. MPG not too bad for type of journey and only3 degrees.

It drives beautifully until the battery is low on a gradient then it's no power and just excessive Revs. Almost as though it isn't de-selecting and selecting gear. It's dangerous if overtaking. The rev noise is a constant concern. Now done 2,000 mls and it's better but still not right. No update been applied. It was in garage after roadside assistance for 30 days. On day 2. Exceptionally hard to contact anyone. Gradients aren't it's friend. Great car for the money if only the hybrid side could be sorted out. Currently at 48 mpg. EV rarely clocks in. Soooo different from Toyota Hybrid but it's bigger than the Yaris Cross but not as efficient?

I have not have excessive revs going uphill since the update. I have found that when the engine heats up, the car performs beautifully. So much so that it has gone into EV mode at 90km/h.

several more journeys and car is revving high on small hills and then on the flat after, until it decides to change gear, even if I take my foot off the revs drop but then shoot back up. Car seems noisier overall as well. Going to ring the dealer now!!
 
Did a 70 mile each way journey over the weekend. Could rarely get over 60 up slight hills before power dropped off and car revved up to 5000. Took my car into the dealer today. They test drove it and found the same issues so agreed with my comments. They spoke to MG who said there is no new update for my car but will look for some sort of solution to try??? The dealer has had to keep the car so i'm now driving a 10 year old Dacia Sandero which is not good. Such a shame as it was much better before the update. Almost seems like my car already had the PD052 update and then its been cancelled when they installed it again?? How can this be so different for all of us?
