Finger print, it will get a fist print in a minute :=((

Thanks hmadsen, tried that site and downloaded the map zip file but was still not able to load it into the head unit
What does it say ?

Did you copy the MAP folder to an empty thumbdrive and delete the 2 files from inside the MAP folder ?
If yes and it does not work, i would suggest to try another thumbdrive, make sure it is FAT32 or NTFS formatted in a Windows PC (Seem to remember people saying, that formatting and copying on a MAC was not working)

What does it say in the file "version" that's inside of the MAP folder ?

Mine says "23Q4_EU_20240111021553_p"

The EU part indicate to me that these are EU maps, so if your version file has the same text, maybe it refuses to load EU maps because the car knows it's nowhere near the EU :)

It doesn't say anything.

When I go the Map Update I get to same screen as below and can't tick the box for.

06 No Files.JPG

I would imagine if the MAP folder on the USB was recognized by the head unit that the square would be filled and when I select that button it would place a tick there.

When I open the MAP folder, the Version.txt file has this in it - 23Q4_EU_20240111021553_p
and that is the same as yours so they are not the Aust/NZ maps.

Try this.

Format the drive again, now put some MP3 files or some AVI movie files on the drive.

What happens if you plug that drive into the USB-A socket.

If the drive is read allright the car should be able to play these, i even think it will pop up saying it has found music or movies if memory serves.

This is mainly to confirm if it is indeed able to "speak" to the drive.

Did you try to open the versions file in the map folder, it would make sense, if you get EU maps, that your car does not want to use them. It says "No maps found" but if it is expecting AUS maps, but finds EU maps, then it should kind of say "I did not find any suitable maps"

Pretty poor of the local MG dealer to NOT be able to help you, by atleast pointing you in the right direction to be honest.

If i were you i would put a bit of pressure on them, if the car is/was advertised as getting 5 years of map updates.

Most moronic thing is.....The car has Wifi, why did they not just implement an update feature that checked for map updates every X days and if there were an update, it would pop up.

Map update available, please connect the car to a wifi network to download.

When the download was complete it would say "New maps downloaded, should i install now or later".

IF the problem is, the unit does not have enough free space to download and replace the maps, it could just ask for a USB drive it could then itself, format and copy download the files to.

I just had a look at the data that is in the USB and I find the following
Folder called "MAP"
Inside that I have
Folder called "TelenavMapData" plus files "file_index.csv", "File_Verification", "Version.txt" & VN.txt

Opening the folder "TelenavMapData" it has these folder and files.

There is another MAP folder ????? I doubt it but will try it to morrow morning and see if this is the folder that should be in the root folder of the USB dive?

Regardless, these are EU maps which are no use to me in Western Australia.

The contact I made with MG was the MG Australia Customer Care and they said that the update should be done when I put the car in for a Service so I will see if they can do it for me.

At this rate I will be connecting up my TBox and installing Sygig on it.

Yeah it seems that the "Enter your VIN to get the correct stuff that fits your car" is probably not that intelligent, when it gives you a EU map file.

I would guess there would or should have been a website that would cater for the region of the world you reside in, and this would give you the AUS version of the maps.

They probably just thought that the service guy could do it at service times but it would be nice to be told.

Will get back after next service at 3,000km.

He might, but i dont think this is something that is normally done during a service.

When i recentlty took delivery i asked in advance if the car would be fully updated software wise, prior to delivery and the seller said that one of the steps in the pre-delivery preparation they had to do, was to stick it on the MG computer and let it update all modules so it would be fully updated.

Mine still came with 2022 maps so my guess is, the only way of doing the map upgrade is through the USB port, their diagnostic computer has no way of doing it.

That being said....The technician might have a USB stick with the latest maps that he pops into the car at service, upon request, he only need one that works and then he can use it, over and over and its not like he has to do anything besides pop it it and start the update, in the menu.

My experience is though, that mechanics really hate all of the "computer" stuff in cars nowadays, so unless they hired someone that is a bit tech savvy, you might end up with a "knucklehead" that is really good at doing mechanic things but is afraid of all of that computer stuff..

I once asked for the infotainment software to be updated in a GM car i owned, the software version 1.0 i had, had a flaw that made android auto only work about 1/10 times.

This was a vauxhall and they fiddled with it for a couple of hours right before closing on a friday so i ended up getting it back, but now the infotainment was.

1. Displaying a chevrolet logo on startup
2. User interface was vastly different AND upside down.

Took them a couple of hours when they got it back the following monday.

4 hours of labor....But they quoted me a price for 1 hour because that's what their internal systems told them it should take.

This was also something with first applying an update via USB and then do "variant coding" afterwards. Apparantly they had gotten the USB key thing working but it would not accept the variant coding afterwards. (And they installed version 1.1 instead of the newest which was at that time 1.5 i think)

Until another Aussie comes on here and tells me how they updated there system I am stuck with what I have unless the service guys can do it for me.

There is a thread on here that refers to the AU/NZ head unit but I don't recall reading that anyone successfully upgraded theirs.

Hi Bob, I have tried to do a map update and I get the same results as you. Looks like map updates as the user level are not possible.

You need to go to the MG website. MG maps are not from Naviextra´s.
This is the MG website page where you will find the map updates. you will need to insert your Vin Number then follow the instructions.

Might be different in Germany but I've used naviextras..

Checked out the German site earlier when posted but couldn't read it, was in German

I checked out the site. I use the Firefox browser so it translates the page it into English. I plugged in the car's VIN number and it came with a number of documents such as user manual etc. Unfortunately, no map updates.

I use Firefox as well and it did translate the page but the documents are still in German.

I think it is about time to give up on being able to update them myself and will leave it for the service guys.

When my car went in for a warranty fix I asked them to update the software and maps. Mine is a Jan 2024 Trophy Connect, yet the maps were 2022 and I knew that 2023 maps were available. They told me that dealers don't do map updates, they have to be done by owners (despite no instructions in any manual how to do it). They also said it "didn't need any other software updates". Hmm. This is Hendy MG, Poole. I use Google maps, the inbuilt maps can't find anything.

That's my experience also.

They don't do map updates.

A bit sad, they only have to make the USB key once and then they could just plug it into all the cars they do software updates on.

I guess it's just their way of saying "We know the satnav is so shitty, no one is using it anyways, so no bloody reason to update the damn thing " :)

From my experience with Naviextra and my old D-Max, this is not the case as it was based on the actual headunit serial number that was on the SD memory card so each individual map update is tied into your unit.

Fred, it is the pdf file that are in German, Web site translates fine
I usually copy and paste into Google translate but there is an option to translate documents as well, try this:

There are also other pdf translators online but I haven't used them
