They probably just thought that the service guy could do it at service times but it would be nice to be told.
Will get back after next service at 3,000km.
He might, but i dont think this is something that is normally done during a service.
When i recentlty took delivery i asked in advance if the car would be fully updated software wise, prior to delivery and the seller said that one of the steps in the pre-delivery preparation they had to do, was to stick it on the MG computer and let it update all modules so it would be fully updated.
Mine still came with 2022 maps so my guess is, the only way of doing the map upgrade is through the USB port, their diagnostic computer has no way of doing it.
That being said....The technician might have a USB stick with the latest maps that he pops into the car at service, upon request, he only need one that works and then he can use it, over and over and its not like he has to do anything besides pop it it and start the update, in the menu.
My experience is though, that mechanics really hate all of the "computer" stuff in cars nowadays, so unless they hired someone that is a bit tech savvy, you might end up with a "knucklehead" that is really good at doing mechanic things but is afraid of all of that computer stuff..
I once asked for the infotainment software to be updated in a GM car i owned, the software version 1.0 i had, had a flaw that made android auto only work about 1/10 times.
This was a vauxhall and they fiddled with it for a couple of hours right before closing on a friday so i ended up getting it back, but now the infotainment was.
1. Displaying a chevrolet logo on startup
2. User interface was vastly different AND upside down.
Took them a couple of hours when they got it back the following monday.
4 hours of labor....But they quoted me a price for 1 hour because that's what their internal systems told them it should take.
This was also something with first applying an update via USB and then do "variant coding" afterwards. Apparantly they had gotten the USB key thing working but it would not accept the variant coding afterwards. (And they installed version 1.1 instead of the newest which was at that time 1.5 i think)
