Charging 10%-100% every 3-6 months

The first time I did a balance charge i.e. leave it charging at 100% (but not from 10%) it sat for the best part of an hour with the current slowly reducing until the car reported charging complete. Subsequent balance charges, mostly done at 80% reduced to about 20 minutes. The only time I tried a <10-100% I was using the 3 pin and it took 28+ hours! Hence my questions about using a Zappi as mine should be installed in a couple of weeks.
 
The user manual gives indicative figures for the amount of time it takes to charge to 100% for both battery types and the charging method.

As an aside, has anyone seen the 'Please Slow-charge the Vehicle' message or are we all looking after our batteries?

IIRC the cell balancing has to be ‘way out’ before that message appears.

Unlike many other EVs, where balancing is only done after reaching 100% SoC, the MG4 automatically starts when it reaches the SoC limit (if >60% ?) set by the driver, thus it’s unlikely you ever going to get that reminder.

I've never had to touch mine since the day I had it and it's covered over, Octopus iGo does all the work.
One thing not to worry about because you will do it, if you're on Octopus and the schedule tells you cheap electric from 21:30 you will either watch the car port to see if it turns green or look at the Zappi app to see if charge is going in the car and the chances are it won't be at 21:30.
iGo will work out with the Zappi and what time you want your car charged by so it might not kick in until 02:00.

Zappi app, to see the car charging you will see power going into it on this screen.

Lithium Polymer seems to be the construct of choice for mobile device "batteries". :)

Point taken (about it being one cell, I mean - our physics teacher used to go on about this). My phone has progressively acquired the facility to limit its charge. At first it was only the ability to tell it to charge to 85%, but then it started showing a range of options including only charge to 80% and charge to 80% then go the rest of the way just before you think I'm going to wake up, and charge to 100% but then stop and don't keep forcing charge in.

My friend's iPhone had these features before mine. Siteguru is right, mine is a Samsung Galaxy.

Not seen it so far, but haven't 100% charged since just before Xmas so may need to do one soon.
 
The option to abort self destruct... Oh, no. Sorry, Wrong script.
The option to charge to 80% only appeared on my Motorola a couple of weeks ago. Till then it had a strange system that relied on learning your charge profile over an unspecified period of time then charging to 80% and holding it there before boosting it to 100% just before it thought you usually took it off charge - there was no control over that at all, it just did what it felt like. I'm glad they abandoned that silly idea.

How do I not charge the car but still plug it in to get a schedule so my wife can use the domestic appliances at cheap rate?
Last night when the car started charging and she was doing the washing I stopped the charge but the schedule went off.
Do I need to go to the car and put the charge on 10% or something?
I did put it on 10% on the Octopus App but it still started charging when it was 67%.

That's not how it works! You should only ask for the % to add that you need and the time you need it by. If you then stop the charge to try and benefit from cheap electricity and Octopus realise you are doing it - you might get kicked off the tariff.

Ideally you should time shift as much as possible to the core times of 23.30 to 05.30 and any extra slots are a benefit.

That makes sense, so go back to the washer and tumble dryer at 23:30 which we can do.

I know with my SR that if I plug in at just before 8pm at less than 10% and ask to add 100% by 4am it will give me one continuous slot. Then at just after 11.30pm I hit bump charge to ensure that Octopus don't override or change any of the allocated slots.

Attached is last night's charge when it started the balance charge just after 5 am (the charge started later than normal).

I'm ready now.
I've put the battery on the MG4 to charge to 100% on the display in the car.
I've put the Octopus App on 100% but it still says Ready by Time 05.30.
If I need 9 hours to charge I may not get enough if it stops at 05:30, shall I set it for later or if I bump charge at 23:30 like @Tight Git suggested will that just charge it to 100%?

Which Octopus tariff are you on and which charger and battery size?

Okay so if it's on intelligent go it would need 10 hours to add 100%, if you set the time to be ready as 4am then plug in the car at 6pm and set up as above - add 100% ready by 04.00.

The problem on Intelligent is it might start splitting the slots which you don't want if you plug in too early.

The advantage of the 4am requested finish time is there is still 1.5 hours after that at cheap rate. The bump charge start at after 23.30 hopefully stops any Octopus interference and allows plenty time to finish the balance.
