Is there any corrosion protection under the new MG ZS EV Long Range. I have seen a video showing unprotected welded seams being coated with a protective adhesive by hand due to some corrosion being evident after one year. It was an early model so maybe this has been addressed on new models.

Apparently the petrol ZS wasn't great in terms of corrosion protection.

In the EV it appears to be a lot better, there is a video where the poster sees some surface corrosion but as he makes clear, no worse than any other car.

If you are keeping longer term it would be worth getting some extra protection.

I had my mk1 done recently.

I was told that part of the preparation of the car, from when it arrived by ship, and until i would be able to pick it up, was because it was to get a "light coating of rust protection".

Maybe this is only something that the Danish importer has chosen to do, due to a very corrosive enviroment where salt is used extensively during winter.

I will have to lie down and look under the car when i get it, to see if i can spot any rust protection.

I was surprised he said that in subsequent talks after i paid the deposit, because he was pushing relatively hard for me to pay for a rust proofing to be done at their garage, before taking delivery.

Maybe i get the coating for free, because i refused it, and those he convince just pays for the same job i get for free, because they will have to do it to all cars.

I paid to have mine done by the delivery garage and was charged for it. When I got home there was no sign of any coating and they wouldn’t respond to calls or emails so I cancelled the credit card payment.

When I took my Gen1 ZS EV excite for its second service he wrote on the service sheet saying front & rear suspension corroding, There was quite a bit of surface rust when I checked it but but nothing to suggest it was corroding through.

I haven't checked underneath this Gen 2 Trophy SR yet.

I really don’t know why he / she thought it was necessary to put this on the sheet, as
this type of surface rust would likely be evident on so many cars ??.
These components carry little or no rust protection coatings on them.
Did they make the assumption that the customer would be willing to pay for these items to be replaced - I think not ?.
Removing the wheel trims even on a brand new car, is very likely to disclose that surface rust has already formed on the end of the CV joint.
This would have been clearly visible on the PDI check, before fitting of the aero wheel covers ( ZS EV ).
But maybe not really a good idea to include this statement on the PDI sheet of a brand new car, should the customer ask to see a copy !.
Almost every make of cars, now carry out a so called “free health check” when your car is presented for work, even work under warranty.
You get the check even if you have not requested it.
Why - Looking to generate extra revenue ?.
I had first hand experience of this when my previous VW hybrid was called in for a recall check on the traction battery.
We could not use our local dealer as a specialist team was travelling around the U.K. doing this checks.
We had to use a dedicated dealer about 60 miles away.
The car had only been serviced three weeks prior at our local VW agents.
The car was booked in for a couple of days, due to the distance involved, we had a loan car.
When we picked up our car, I was presented with a free health check sheet with items that had been highlighted for our urgent ‼️ attention.
It also contained an estimate for the work to be carried out.
From memory, one of the items stated that my brake fluid required urgent replacement at a cost of £80.
Strange I thought, because it was only changed three weeks earlier at my local agents and I had left the service book on the passengers seat ??.
A quick check would have clearly revealed that this had already been done ????.
I held out my hand for my keys and then said “Nice Try” and left the service advisor still grasping the sheet with a blank expression on his face.
Service work is usually held by the dealer you prefer to use generally, there is no guarantee that this information is shared between branches.
All warranty work has to be first agreed by the manufacturers customer services department, so this IS recorded on file to them at least.

I am intending to Lanoguard the underside and wheel arches of both my cars. It needs to be done every 12 months but is relatively easy to apply. Will do a post on this with photos when I do the work.

I lanoguard all of our cars that we've owned and have been doing so for the last decade, so I was happy to see someone else doing it. It's a bit of a faff, but the underneath of the wife's ZS looks brand new in comparison to the average and adds a little piece of mind; especially when her work has her over fields and in and out of farms. Due to do it again at the end of the month so I'll have it on the lift to pressure clean last years coating off and reapply.

This salvage vehicle showed up in my ebay feed:

I accept it may have had a bump which may have damaged the paint, but is the condition of the front crash bar (photo 8) typical? After 5 years it seems like every weld is surrounded by rust. It's possible it's leaked coolant on it, but that shouldn't explain the corrosion.

I'm not sure whether this is what's happening on the rest of the chassis, but if I were repairing this I'd probably want to strip that crash bar down and give it some proper protective coating. The same would go if it had to be replaced.

I must say, the state of the bracket containing the charge point is terrible. I must try to have a look at my car in that area.

I am currently complaining about the rust on the bracket holding the charge point. Without a charge point the car is useless and it’s worrying to see so much rust in this area. My EV ZS is 2020.

I have looked at the same area on my car and it seems to be in good condition, no rust visible. I wonder if there was some reason why water was reaching that bracket in Pastrami’s car because some protective cover was missing or broken, or it could just be badly painted?
