Hi. I took delivery of a ZS EV Trophy yesterday, 72 plate. It appears that the app is “bound” to an unknown person. MG Customer service have told me that it must be dealt with by a dealer. I’m getting nowhere with the two dealers which are in the area. Has anyone had this problem and can advise please?

Many thanks in anticipation!!!

Hi, found this hope it helps.

Binding

Our ex-demo came bound to someone else's account from the dealer. They promised to sort it out for us but nothing changed. In the end I emailed MG UK directly and they sorted it pretty quickly. The question is - is it bound to your account or to someone else's?!?

Hi. It is bound to someone else’s account. Previous owner I suspect. As it was a notability car I’m unable to track the person. I’ll try MG uk again.. Thank you for your reply.

Hi, not sure if this helps but I'm picking my car up tomorrow, 73' zs trophy long range which was still bound to the previous owner, the dealership I'm buying it from (not MG) took it to an MG dealer today who have plugged it in and unbound it from the previous owner so it can't be a big job for an MG dealer to sort out for you.

I tried to unbind my car from the previous owner and lost patience after 3-4 attempts
then left it for about 72 hours went back tried it again and connected first time to
my phone and tablet.

It’s possible that the previous owner suddenly decided to unbind your car from their iSMART app, as I understand a new owner cannot do this. If one’s car was stolen, for example, it wouldn’t be great if the thief was able to simply unbind the rightful owner.

However, MG are able to carry out the unbinding process, on production of the required documentation.

There was actually an update to iSmart a few months ago, this is to allow auto unbinding, if you purchased a used car that was still bound to the previous owner, and you tried to bind yourself then it would send a notification to the previous owner to allow or deny the change, if nothing is changed within 3 days then the car would be automatically unbound from the previous owner

MG Support came back to me recently with the below and attached. Hope it helps someone in the future:

"Dear Customer,

You can force unbind the account yourself. Please refer to the attached manual for detailed instructions.

After starting the unbinding process, the previous owner has up to 72 hours to respond. If no action is taken within that period, the vehicle will be unbound automatically. At that point, you can proceed with rebinding. Please wait 72 hours before rebinding, and avoid unbinding again during this period.
If you are unable to complete the process, kindly provide your vehicle’s VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), along with your identification and vehicle proof documents, and we will assist you with the unbinding."
