Silly alarm - Is this just how it's supposed to be

So my wife has this bright idea to put her jacket in the boot when she leaves work.

Problem is, if she goes to the boot, jacket in hand, put the jacket into the boot (And forget her key is in her jacket pocket), the boot will unlock for her, because the key is there, but the rest of the car does not unlock.

So she puts the jacket in the boot, closes it, goes to the door, press the keyless entry button, it will offcourse not unlock as the key is not close enough.

BUT...When she then goes to the boot and open it to retrieve the key, the alarm goes off immediately.

Is this normal ?

In short....

1. Open boot, put key inside boot area
2. Close boot
3. Go to drivers side door and press the button on the handle to unlock ( It will offcourse not).
4. Open the boot to retrieve the key.

As soon as you do #4 the alarm starts blaring.
 
What happens if you omit no 3?
Following 1-4, I suspect it is confused so sets off alarm to be on the safe side.

Then it does not trigger the alarm, but for that to happen, my wife would have to be thinking and if she did that, she would probably just have taken the keys out of her pocket before she put it in the boot.

This is a case of "It would literally be easier to get MG to fix this in software, than to teach my wife to not put the key in there because she is totally not thinking that much about anything" :)

In reality the neighbors and her colleagues will probably just have to endure the alarm blaring multiple times each week, until we get to winter and she does not take the jacket off, because it's too cold :)

Okay, then it's probably "A feature, not a bug" if i ask MG.

Lets see if she will eventually learn to remove the key before putting the jacket in the boot.

Yeah, the main problem is, i know who is the one that will have to come sort it out for her in the end.

I bet she wont think about using the digital key in the app.

She is good at many things, but the technical part and logic thinking is NOT some of those things she is good at. :p
 
I did the same thing, only my keys were in my gym bag. I kept getting alarm activated alerts in the app after that, which cancelled but reappeared again when the app was next used. I found the solution was to lock and unlock the car with the key buttons, and the alerts stopped.

Why would it not. Boot opens though yes?
 
If try to do something it’s telling you are doing something wrong. Throw the wife away put spare key in a drawer in a faraday pouch and problem solved.

Now thus is getting silly. A Faraday cage is a microwave's way of stopping the waves escaping.He's just paid for larger boot space to the Yaris Cross.

Exactly the same happened to me this morning...

You do know that if the car is locked and you have the key in your pocket and go to the boot, the car will release the boot, but not unlock the car and then if you just walk away the car is still fully locked and the boot will offcourse not open.

So it knows the key is there, otherwise it would not release the boot.
