Post a Pic

Are the "workies" (working men's clubs) still a big thing over there?

I was in NSW in the early 90s and the workies in any town I visited was always popular - and always closed at about 6pm or so ... to force the guys to go home to get their dinners. 😁
Sorry mate, I've never come across them, I know the RSL clubs are big in the Eastern states, Mainly I think because they have poker machines to fund them. That's illegal here, so they aren't a thing. But workies I have no idea about.

The workies I visited also tended to have a room full of poking (not poker) machines ... i.e. "one armed bandits", called poking machines because you kept poking money into the slot. :)

I've been away for a couple of days, but not in the car. See if you can guess where I was?

Glenfinnan Viaduct on the Fort William to Mallaig railway line. Quite possibly on the Jacobite train judging by the assembled sightseers and photographers gathered below (is it still steam hauled, given the fire risks here in the Highlands at the moment?).

Correct, although it was an ordinary scheduled service using one of their standard old diesel units. I guess rubberneckers will rubberneck anything.

I suppose someone had to say it...

Fun fact. Although the Hogwart's Express is seen crossing the viaduct on its way to the school, shots showing the view from the school to the west actually show it looking out on the head of Loch Shiel, as if the school were actually built where the viaduct is.

(Further up the loch it turns into Loch Arkaig then Loch Morar, and other aspects from the school look on to Rannoch Moor and Glen Coe. It's a sort of scenic collage of the best views around the western Highlands.)
