What is the recommended charge for a MG 5. I have just purchased a 2024 Trophy. I have read differing views. Some say 80% and others say that it is ok to go 100%. I am also new to EV driving. I would appreciate any advice on this.

80% is best to preserve battery health . No problem charging to 100% on a fast charger ( 7kW). But charging to 100% [ on a rapid charger ] is not recommended for battery health.

Thanks. Most of my charging will home charging off Ohme charger so 80% will be more than enough for my daily commute. 106 km round trip. But good to know that 100% is ok now and again.

I charge mine to 80 percent.

However, if I have a long journey the next day, I top it up to 100 percent over night.

Note that Ohme chargers can't detect the SOC of an MG5, so setting the Ohme app to 80 percent attempts to add 80 percent, rather than charge to 80 percent.

I therefore have my Ohme charger set to add 100 percent by 7AM every day of the week, and just set the charge limit on the car accordingly before plugging in.

Its fine to charge to 100% but batteries don't really like being left sitting at 100%. I charge mine to 80% unless I need to use more the following day.
I think its even fine to charge to 100% on a rapid charger - it really slows down for the last 20% so its not time efficient but it wont hurt the battery.

I charge mine to 80% most of the time. You can set it to charge to 80% using the charge setting on the screen.

For longer journeys I always charge it to 100% over night.

One thing to remember is to try not to charge it to 100% and then leave it unused for days on end as the battery doesnt appreciate it

100% is fine all the time if you use it a lot. Mine is charged to 100% every night, it's rarely more than 20% by the time I get home so the battery gets a good workout. Batteries are in general lasting far longer than predicted by the 'press' and yours should be good for 20 years, probably will outlast your ownership. :)
