I also have the Long Range model and have never noticed it doing a balance charge on AC charging. It charges to 100 % and then stops.

MG do offer a tow bar. Had MG's official tow bar fitted last year by the MG dealer (but it's expensive).

No if you look closely at the image he posted you will see that it's from a three phase connection (415 volt). He will be connected to a different phase to his neighbour giving him in effect his own power supply.
