Auto dip headlight - how to reactivate?

I kept "losing" auto dipping under various scenarios. I would quickly switch the lighting stalk to off & back to on - not ideal. I recently discovered that if your speed falls to 20mph or there by (e.g. passing through a village) the auto dip re-activates.

    Rear screen washer failure.

I'm 100% sure it's noything to do with the washer fluid freezing. I think the problem is that the nozzle on the rear wiper gets wet (e.g.with rain water) and freezes, blocking the nozzle. When we operate the washer pump, the fluid can't get out, the pressure builds up and the joint pops...

    Frozen Charging Port Door? (Flap)

    Not on my facelift version.

    Frozen Charging Port Door? (Flap)

That wasn't clear in your post. But, as I added later, I can see no harm in leaving the pin off.

    Frozen Charging Port Door? (Flap)

As documented in another thread, my chargeport cover stuck closed with a failed solenoid. It's only warranted for one year(!) - my solution? Turn the locking pin anti-clockwise, remove it altogether and put it in the glovebox - the next owner can decide whether he/she wants to refit it...

    Frozen Charging Port Door? (Flap)

From the photo, you have the facelift version. No tools needed - the pin is a 'bayonet' fitting. Put the sleeve over the pin then insert the pin into the hole in the cover/door/flap, turn clockwise until it locks. Job done.

    Hello Everybody

My post with photos of each step in securing the joint behind the screen pillar trim. Only basic tools are needed. I tried using cable ties, but it popped off again, so I changed to spring clips - they have been secure ever since. https://www.mgevs.com/threads/mg5-wont-turn-off.14975/post-349864

    MG5 Washer Jets Freezing

There has been a flurry of posts related to this. I had the same kind of issue in December. The problem seems to be that the nozzle in the wiper arm freezes and a joint in the rear screen wash tube behind the driver side (right hand side) screen pillar pops off. Most people get away with just...

    MG5 won't turn off

Received wisdom is to use cable ties. I did that in December (after being with the dealer to fix it and finding all they had done was pop the pipe back on with no fixings!). It popped off again a couple of weeks ago (despite running neat washer fluid). I think the cable ties I used might have...

    MG5 won't turn off

My clips arrived today and have them fitted. Although they were a tight fit, I thought that the 7mm ones would give the best grip and so were the best option. Photos attached - you'll see that I also popped in bits of sponge to catch any fluid if the joint should give way in the future. Why...

    Planning a trip to Scotland

CPS are different to Electroverse. They don't get any commission on the charging. Almost all of the chargers on their system are operated by local authorities, and the Scottish Government engaged them to act as a central 'enabler'. If you're sticking to heavily populated areas, you should be...

    Planning a trip to Scotland

HURRAH! Someone else thinking the same as me. I taught interface design / user experience design at university and this app REALLY annoys/frustrates me. The 'Edinburgh' issue I can live with, same with the verification - although both are just ridiculously inappropriate. WARNING - RANT...

    MG5 won't turn off

Those look like a better solution than cable ties. I'll get a set for myself! I didn't measure the MG pipe but it looks about the same as normal washer tubing, which is 5mm internal diameter, 9mm external.

    MG5 won't turn off

I got a detailed report, but it only said things such as "checked plug ABC, pin 123 for continuity”. They found continuity in a pin, which presumably indicated a short circuit. They removed the plug, cleaned it and refitted it - no more short. Athe whole problem was that the rear washer pipe...

    MG5 Washer Jets Freezing

More important is the joint behind the right hand windscreen pillar trim. Mine popped off and soaked the body control module plus immobiliser module. It couldn't be driven and took the dealer two weeks (of which they worked on it for 7 days) until I got it back. Securing the pipes to the...

    Frozen Charging Port Door? (Flap)

I have an MG5, and looking at this thread from the sidelines. The charge port cover on my car wouldn't unlock from time to time because there was a fault with the lock/release solenoid. It's only warranted for one year (!). My solution was simply to remove the locking pin. It no longer...

    Tips for using public chargers

This one is unlikely, but it caught me out earlier this year. I have my car set to charge between midnight and 5am. While away for the weekend, I tried to charge on a rapid charger in the late morning. I couldn’t get it to charge, phoned the helpline without success and the charger was logged...

    VOTE TESLA SUPERCHARGES with MG5

Face lifted version, registered November 2022 ... It wouldn't work on Superchargers ... but yes, it has been been updated to enable Tesla Superchargers ... and yes, it now works on Tesla units. The dealer in Kirkcaldy (Arnold Clark) wanted paid even though it was in for a service. Their...

Paulie's MG5 upgrades blog, Wheels, Suspension, Foot rest, & much more!

It was a simple case of remove one of the hinge nuts, fit bracket 1 & refit the nut. Remove the rear bolt for the headlight, fit bracket 2 & refit the bolt. Clip the strut to the two brackets. No modifications to the car.

Paulie's MG5 upgrades blog, Wheels, Suspension, Foot rest, & much more!

I had my 2 year old in for a service last month. When I collected it, I was told that the gas struts for the bonnet were “an unauthorised modification” and that my warranty could be affected. Quite ridiculous - they don't adversely affect the car in any way. In any case, the car is owned not...
