Replacement 12V auxiliary battery for MGS5

I'm normally a positive person, but in this case, I'm not even "sat on the fence" 🤣 I'm negative and untrusting of the durability of my MGS5 12v battery 🤔 A strong and uncomfortable feeling of Déjà vu, saying very little to my wife to save her form worrying. Just hope I can find my keys at the...

Replacement 12V auxiliary battery for MGS5

Let's hope you are correct @stevedee when you say the HV traction battery "hopefully" maintains the 12v battery whist "asleep". At least I think you mean that! As we've already discussed, MG maintains it's doesn't do that! We'll soon see now as we are due back to Gatwick in under 2 weeks...

    Auto high beams

Our other car is a Hyundai Tucson (rare 4WD) it has a lovely lighting system, especially useful are the cornering lights, activated when turning at lower speeds and lights up the nearside kerb/verge area. That is something I really miss having on the MGS5, sometimes at night wondering if I'm...

@Hugo A Go Go same here, slaps on the effing brakes every time, exactly the same on my previous MG4.

Replacement 12V auxiliary battery for MGS5

A quick update on my S5 parked at Gatwick Airport, I tried to remotely access the MG iSmart app this morning but, I was unable to get any response from it, timing out each try. Does this mean my 12v battery has already drained in 7 days, or does the app "go to sleep" after a period of non use...

    New food waste collection

Our council started food caddy waste collection last year, we are deep in Hampshire countryside, no mains drainage, every household in our hamlet use either a septic tank, or specialized private sewage solution. We personally don't have any food waste, we compost all veggie waste and any non...

    Auto high beams

Yes it's crap on the S5, my previous MG4 worked much better, it's sad a more modern car has adopted a retrospective design. MG needs to pull their socks up on a lot of the features on the S5! There has been a lot of comment on this and other simple things which are standard on the MG4, but...

Switched +12V Supply for hardwiring a dashcam

Good idea to have a switched supply, I fitted a Viofo with permanent live, but battery isn't man enough on my MGS5. The S5 has a switched USB-A feed to the left side of the rear view mirror, ideally placed for the dash cam, not sure if the Cyberster has one If not try this thread.. "Cyberster...

    Switching from MG4 to MGS5 . Advice please .

Bloody thing doesn't always work anyway, slightest bit of crud on the sensor and it's back to putting down the pack donkey load and fumble for the key fob. 🗝️😂

Recovering a Lead Acid battery after it has been deeply discharged

I'm considering taking up your suggestion of using an Anderson Plug to enable easy connection of the small booster unit, it would save a bit of time and scraped knuckles trying to connect to the negative battery terminal, slightly hidden under the bulkhead area, the positive post is easy to access.

Recovering a Lead Acid battery after it has been deeply discharged

Definitely FLOODED @Lovemyev, yes, the most basic of the lead acid battery technologies. It was mentioned here that doubling the capacity of the battery will only lengthen (double approximately) the time it takes to go flat. But if what several of us are experiencing is normal it will at...

Recovering a Lead Acid battery after it has been deeply discharged

I don't have a lot of time to do a current leakage (parasitic draw) test, or to delete the iSmart app for checks before we are away. After reconnecting the neg terminal this morning, I had all sorts of warnings about various functions not working, I've got most of them back now after a full...

Recovering a Lead Acid battery after it has been deeply discharged

On reconnecting the 12V neg lead this morning, ignition still off, left off but unlocked overnight, there was quite a flash as I touched the lead to the neg battery post, that in my opinion is drawing more current than I'd be expecting, it may of course be correct as there will be at least a...

Recovering a Lead Acid battery after it has been deeply discharged

Hi again @stevedee , Just noticed your mention of AGM, I checked just this morning as a matter of fact and my S5 is definitely FLOODED and not AGM, it's not easy to see, because the info label is partially hidden by the battery strap which I had to push aside to read it. I set up a full...

Replacement 12V auxiliary battery for MGS5

Lanzarote Steve, It's an annual migration to warmer climes! MG's comment already posted here, but I'll post again:- "Thank you for contacting MG Customer Care. I t is possible for the system to monitor the 12 volt auxiliary battery, however this typically occurs only when the vehicle is...
