MG4 lane keeping assist

One explanation could be the more recent firmware since you are on r59 at least.
I will be getting r63 beginning February. I think it is more useful to respond when the car is back and I had a couple of working days behind the belt
I'm due a service in about 3 months. I might ask if I can get that update too when it's in.

LKA is a right PITA. Loads worse then the ID3 we had for years previously

Which? says it is potentially dangerous and

"Is the MG4's lane assist worse than other cars?

Our lab has noted issues with the lane-keep assistance and lane-departure warning systems with other cars, but none displayed behaviour like we saw with the MG4."

EBA is very painful and happened about once a week

Car is now in Towing mode (R59 Xpower)

Hi,
I am looking to purchase a 2023 MG4 ev in the next month.
Based on looks and value for money they look worthwhile, however I have noticed on videos that the lane keeping assist and front collision assist can be very agressive. Is this still the case or has the software been updated?
Thanks John
I switch the "lane keeping" off before every trip, it gets on my nerves but I don't have a problem with the "front collision assist"

2024 MG4SE LR - At first I found LKA a bit disturbing but it taught me to drive better, between the lines AND either signal for lane changes or make them more positively.
Not recommended, but with cruise control and LKA, the car will almost drive itself, hand and foot-free on a motorway!

MG4 LKA further update now available

I have learnt from a reliable source that MG has yrsterday 31/01/25 released a bulletin to all dealers where they have announced a FoC (Free of Charge) update:

Title: Lane Keep Assist Update MG4 (SC077 - Campaign)
Reference: AS-25-006

The update is to the EPS and FDR modules on all MG4 variants. The update is as a result of customer feedback.

Dealers have been instructed to proactivly contact customers to arrange booking dates ASAP for the update and to update all stock.

I'm looking forward to not having to turn off LKA each time I get in the car!

The regular LKA has been updated last year, making it a little less aggressive. I think it's usable now.

The Emergency Lane Keeping Aid however, can still be extremely dangerous if you ask me. No matter the software version. It almost caused a very severe crash on the highway for me a few weeks ago. Please do yourself and loved ones a favor and turn this off every time you use this car.
I have never found it unsafe in 10,000 miles.

So I do normally keep a good distance, but everyone gets into the situation where the car in front gets a little close, and when they brake hard and gets closer you should be braking not getting distracted by a F@kin annoying bleep.
If it’s beeping at you, seriously you are far too close, back off more.

There is an update for the lane assist which came out about a week back don't now if it's made a difference yet but time will tell

LKA is garbage and dangerous. If you are the type who does not mind to disable it every time you go from "P" to "D" then buy the car. (It is awesome otherwise). For me this "pre-flight check procedure" is not acceptable, so I covered the camera with a sticker. This triggers some annoying error messages and ACC does not always work though.

Johnny g, R59 UPDATE, sorted out the aggressive yanking of the steering wheel in Oct 24 on my 4 Trophy LR's 1st service.
I've personally never been problemed by collision assist, but defo LKA was awful, although it could be turned off, the update simplified that process too, it seemed like MG were listening, probably not to us drivers, but to every professional reviewer who slated it 🤣😂.

The MG4 still maintains high regard in reviews, I'm looking forward to replacing it at 2 years old in October, with either the MG4 Extended Range which has a bit more power and better range, or perhaps take a look at the new Marvel, whatever it'll be called by then, may also jump ship altogether, rather liking the Xpeng G6.

But my MG4 LR has (touch wood) proven to be really very good indeed.

I think the reason the MG4 got such a poor reliability rating is because the 1st Gen MG4 NMC 3 phase battery charging system had a quality issue that meant after about a year to 18 months would fail and need to be replaced (happened to me). On top of that the software was only 70% ready for release so had issues, most complained about was the LKA but also the AC charging was not fit for purpose (I had that as well), but there were other issues that seem to take MG an eon to rectify, even now the LKA is dangerous and I disable ever time I drive. Not ideal but it seem now most of the issues have been ironed out, shame as it is in essence a good car to drive.

After R63, I would not call it dangerous anymore. It has become so mild even my cat can handle it.
The good thing is the drop down and disable option is quite quick. The bad thing is that it still makes silly errors. To be honoust, some are not acceptable.

Reliability also suffered from the flimsy BT connection, leaking boot, bulging undertray, washers being everywhere but not on the wind screen, vibrations, bad tyres at delivery and a lot more....

Software was the worst though. And their proces of handling software issues is next level. A big update takes more than a day.....

I m only aware of 1st gen problems from other sources Delboy, I think most of the problems were sorted in my 2nd gen MG4, but the crap LKA was with me for the 1st year, which I disabled every time I remembered 😂.
In retrospect the salesman was wanting me to buy an in stock 1st gen mg4, but I insisted the rear screen wiper was more important than a sunroof and was prepared to wait for delivery.

I'm retisent to put "the Commentators curse" on my 2nd gen MG4 LR, but it's been faultless so far, goes well and apart from more road noise than previous cars, it pretty dammed good.

I'm afraid not.
We have a 2023 Trophy and I don't find LKA a problem, although my wife doesn't like it and it's on our pre-flight checklist to turn off. I don't like the automatic headlights during the day, so I turn these off on the stalk.
That's interesting. I find that, in poor weather (of which we have had a great deal recently), I have to actively turn ON the headlights because the auto headlights are not as sensitive as I would like !

Agree with the headlight sensaattivity, but it's not a major issue and easy to turn off.

Some people have used these 3D printed covers, although I think this is to stop the lights from coming on too soon, so I guess it would do the opposite of what you want?

I only have that with fog. Not the one with <50 mtrs visibility. More like 100 to 150 mtrs. If the sky above the mist is bright enough the sensor does not activate head lights. I have to do it manually.
Also, in the rain the sensor seems to be indecive to activate or deactive the high beam.
