MG4 service - what is covered? Low vs high mileage

That was my strategy too, but I booked online with no option for adding comments. When I took it in they said they had only scheduled time for the service so I would have to book for ‘fault diagnosis’ some other time.

MG4 service - what is covered? Low vs high mileage

In which case, perhaps it's more likely that the calipers may need checking for free movement.

MG4 service - what is covered? Low vs high mileage

I doubt that they even did what they said they'd do on mine. In and out in under an hour including up on the lift, video recording of tyres and brake disks, a couple of pages of checklist 'ticks' (lubricate hinges and the like), EV charger test and roadtest.

    Unexpected 'passenger'

I must have inadvertantly changed some setting! I was surprised the other day to be greeted into the car by a woman's voice welcoming me and telling me the date, time and weather forecast. Mind you, she was a a bit out with the date this morning, telling me it was the first of January 2019...

I’ve missed that. How do I do that?

    Lane keeping assist

I often use ‘ACC’ and yesterday - setting-off on a long journey and anticipating some traffic-jams on the way - I decided to try ‘TJA’. If you think ‘LKA’ is bad you should try ‘TJA’. I couldn’t keep the car in a straight line. Is it supposed to be selected just while you’re in queueing traffic...

    MG4 Software Update Thread

That's a very interesting question, which leads to several others relating to the required technician skill level and the potential for alternatives to franchised dealers.

    MG4 Software Update Thread

I don’t disagree. But if you’re not told that an update is available (although it may not be free) then you don’t even have an option and may simply continue to think that buying the brand and from that dealer was a mistake not to be repeated. Reputations are difficult to build and easily lost.

    MG4 Software Update Thread

The technicians who work on the cars every day will get to know what the updates are and what their effects are. The dealer service departments could, if they wished, be more proactive on their customer’s behalf and ask targeted questions of their customers to determine which updates may be of...

    MG4 Software Update Thread

Basically, we’re not getting the after-sales ‘Service’ that we expect from dealers. I expect my dealer to be pro-active and know what updates are likely to be available for my vehicle and act on my behalf and lobby MG. Not only didn’t I not even get a wash and vac with my recent annual service...

    MG4 service plan

You have to select a dealer when you take it out. However, the plan is paid for in instalments. I don’t know what the deal is if terminated part way through.

    MG4 service plan

£470.37 for 3 years and one MoT for the 'low mileage' option (5000 miles per year). This was through the MG portal. I've just had the first service and it didn't even get washed.

I was trying to find a list of the modules recently. Do you know where I can find one (and what they do) ?

    MG4 Software Update Thread

@tsedge - But surely they would design a Support and Maintenance regime for the MG4 around the dozen or so modules actually in the MG4, so it's not quite the problem that you suggest. As you say, we're almost 2 years into the product and there is apparently little or no recognition of any...

    Trophy LR first service

@jamherber IIRC, OBD2 is more like 500kbps. Maybe the firmware payload is much bigger than I imagined. Crikey - it would be cheaper in technician time to replace the modules :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

    Trophy LR first service

Why does it take 4+hours? Is is congestion at MG's servers? Is it an unreliable process? We don't have to put up with such long updates with Microsoft, Apple, et al.

    MG4 Software Update Thread

I'd like to understand why the module firmware updates are proving so troublesome. It's not rocket science. Consumer electronics software upgrades have been common for years (mobile phones, Smart TV's, etc). Do MG have this problem on their other vehicle platforms? Are the dealers' problems...

    Trophy LR first service

Good advice. My dealer's online booking form had no option for adding freeform comments, unfortunately, and I couldn't find an email address for them. The local phone number turned out to be a call centre somewhere. I'm going to have to find the time to book mine in again for 'diagnosis' of my...

    MG4 Software Update Thread

It looks as though obtaining a map update via mg motor.eu is a 'backdoor' route (although I note that the UK is still part of the European continent, just not in the European Union 'club'). Is there an MG-approved route to map updates for UK MG4 owners? If not, why not?

    MG4 Software Update Thread

MG - and the present dealer network - gained an early lead in affordable EVs. In my opinion, they both stand to lose a lot of their existing customers as competitors offerings improve unless they do something significant to recover the present dire situation.
