CEE / Comando 32 amp socket and 7kW charger

Am considering a CEE / Comando 32 amp socket and 7kW charger instead of an expensive wallbox. My breaker box is right by the door of my garage, so am temped to get the socket mounted inside and trail charging cable under the door. Only had the car a couple of weeks but expect to charge mostly...

    UK domestic socket charging

Hi, you will need an interlocking 32A commando socket for EV charging and something like a Matte PEN protection device. You maybe better off with an Ohme with a commando plug to get on IOG.

    UK domestic socket charging

Yeah I know what you mean, its a lot simpler and cheaper to install.. however I do think a qualifying wall charger to get the Intelligent Go rates will over time more than pay for itself. Anyhow I hope it works for you, let us know how its going after a while, thanks for sharing.

    UK domestic socket charging

So, armed with info from this forum. Think I'm going to go for this. Similar to a Granny charger, but puts out 7.4kw same as a wallbox. As opposed to 2.3kw of a granny. Will get it professionally fitted so it's all neat and tidy, and obviously safe! Should be less than half price of a...

    UK domestic socket charging

What do you mean lack of a meter signal. So are you just paying 22.29p anytime of the day?

    UK domestic socket charging

...My experience is that for a pattern of mainly local use with a long trip once or twice a week then granny charging is okay but the faster wallbox will be more relaxing and won't require me to close my garage door when it is finished. Due to lack of meter signal I cannot get an overnight...

    UK domestic socket charging

Similar to Rolfe my daytime tariff just increased to 25.6p with a daily standing charge of 66p. Everybody's situation is different but like Rolfe I hardly use any peak time power because I have a battery. In fact two. May be worth you getting a quote for a battery, not necessary solar too but...

    UK domestic socket charging

...correct? For example I'm paying 24p at the moment, so if I went to 7p overnight, would the daytime Tarrif go to 30p or more. So would that not cancel it's self out. Like I say it's only what I've heard, could be totally cobblers. Plus obviously the price of the wallbox, initially about a grand. ?

MG4 Granny Charge versus Public Charge Until Wallbox Installed

So does Wallbox apparently, but Ohme and Zappi are much more commonly used.

Aside from slow house charge cable, and V to L cable and an MG branded wallbox we get, 1 year free "first class" insurance and the dealer provides free window tint of your choice. All in all a good set of accessories incentive...

MG4 Granny Charge versus Public Charge Until Wallbox Installed

I doubt that your RCD is 30 amp, you probably mean 30mA which is the fault tripping current. Have another look and it should have a current rating on it too, usually 40A, 63A or some such figure. Also is the garage socket on a circuit which has an MCB fuse protecting it? this also will have the...

    CHARGE OF THE SH**E BRIGADE

I did my <10% to 100% charge last night - actually from 6%, so ~94% added. 0.94 x 50.8 = 47.75kWh Used by my Wallbox (so delivered from grid) was 52.21kWh, so ~91.5% efficiency.

MG4 Granny Charge versus Public Charge Until Wallbox Installed

MG UK website says that all cars come with granny charger. I got an Xpower in June and I got a granny charger and type 2 cable aswell. https://www.mg.co.uk/electric-life (Scroll down to “WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED TO CHARGE AN MG ELECTRIC CAR?”)

MG4 Granny Charge versus Public Charge Until Wallbox Installed

When I bought my car in May last year I had every intention of getting a wallbox fitted, I even got the guy who fitted the smart meter to arrange the wiring to make it easy. I found the combination of granny/solar and some free supermarket electrons meant I didn't feel the need during the summer...

MG4 Granny Charge versus Public Charge Until Wallbox Installed

Hi, I am finally getting an MG4 Trophy LR next week but my Wallbox isn't getting installed until a month after I get the car. I have a 30A RCD supplying a socket just inside my garage door. I am wondering should I: 1. Charge at the Dundee Supercharger for a month? 52p/kWh ...or will this...

    Which ev charger

If you have an EV then you can get onto Octopus Go at 8.5p/kWh for 5 hours over night. If you have a compatible EVSE (charge point) then you can get onto Intelligent Octopus Go at 7p/kWh for 6 plus hours but you currently need an Ohme, Zappi or Wallbox as MG are not API compatible.

You have no choice these days if you mean a wallbox, they must be smart chargers by law now.

Octopus Install of Ohme Home Pro

    A 20-month old new car!

...branch where I collected it. Along the way it got separated from its charging cable. My local branch has supplied me with type2-type2 one. (Wallbox is on order so that's probably best.) I'l get a photo of the software versions, but the first versio number on the screen ended "R16". I drove...
