Hi all

Which ev charger to opt for?
Does the new mg5 se have smart charging where you can set it for off peak hours or is it worth getting a smart charger.

Open to all recomemdations
Cheers in advance

Check with whoever you get your energy from. E.g Octopus recommends and can install ones that work best with their tarrifs

If you have an EV then you can get onto Octopus Go at 8.5p/kWh for 5 hours over night.
If you have a compatible EVSE (charge point) then you can get onto Intelligent Octopus Go at 7p/kWh for 6 plus hours but you currently need an Ohme, Zappi or Wallbox as MG are not API compatible.

Not all "smart" chargers are made equal:
1. Can it provide various amps (i.e. ramp up and down) or is it just "all or nothing"?
2. Can it divert excess solar if you want it to? (almost certainly related to 1.)
3. Can a third party (like Octopus) control it on your behalf?

More and more chargers will offer these features in the future, but some got there earlier.

Some of those with these useful features are: Zappi, Givenergy, Ohme, Hypervolt, Solar Edge.

I'd get a Hypervolt (unless you've got a Givenergy or solar edge home battery system), but Zappi and Ohme seem popular.
