charger
A battery charger, or recharger, is a device that stores energy in a battery by running an electric current through it. The charging protocol (how much voltage or current for how long, and what to do when charging is complete) depends on the size and type of the battery being charged. Some battery types have high tolerance for overcharging (i.e., continued charging after the battery has been fully charged) and can be recharged by connection to a constant voltage source or a constant current source, depending on battery type. Simple chargers of this type must be manually disconnected at the end of the charge cycle. Other battery types use a timer to cut off when charging should be complete. Other battery types cannot withstand over-charging, becoming damaged (reduced capacity, reduced lifetime), over heating or even exploding. The charger may have temperature or voltage sensing circuits and a microprocessor controller to safely adjust the charging current and voltage, determine the state of charge, and cut off at the end of charge.
Chargers may elevate the output voltage proportionally with current to compensate for impedance in the wires.A trickle charger provides a relatively small amount of current, only enough to counteract self-discharge of a battery that is idle for a long time. Some battery types cannot tolerate trickle charging; attempts to do so may result in damage. Lithium-ion batteries cannot handle indefinite trickle charging.
Slow battery chargers may take several hours to complete a charge. High-rate chargers may restore most capacity much faster, but high rate chargers can be more than some battery types can tolerate. Such batteries require active monitoring of the battery to protect it from overcharging. Electric vehicles ideally need high-rate chargers. For public access, installation of such chargers and the distribution support for them is an issue in the proposed adoption of electric cars.
Hi all
Anyone got the above-named charger? It regularly says not connected on the app, and now is sometimes going into a yellow-led "paused" mode (no explanation of what that even means).
I love having an EV but bloody hell the faff is doing my head in.
Hi folks,
My mother-in-law has had her Easee charger removed by motability and an Ohme one installed in its place - we don't know why.
I have the Ohme App working on her phone but the scheduling is confusing - she is on plain Octopus Go and doesn't want to change tariffs.
How can I set up a...
I noticed with my MG4 Long Range that when charging at a fast charger, the speed is not exceeding some 62 kW and that not even continuously. Outside temperature was some 2 C and the initial charge of the battery was 17 %.
Can anybody tell me if this disappointing speed is normal with an MG4?
Is...
I have just fitted a wireless charger from AliExpress on my MG4 SE. In combination with a CarLinkIt wireless AndroidAuto/Apple CarPlay, it allows for a full wireless experience.
It just works fine.
Here are some pictures documenting the installation
A seasonal title - but not a seasonal issue.
Our small toon of 7,000 is well catered for with AC fast chargers 7kW/22kW (3x2 free Charge Place Scotland = 1x2 pay for Charge Place Scotland, + 2 pay for in Aldi). The free ones have high use, the others rarely used. I suspect the free to use ones...
I just transferred from Octopus Go to Intelligent go to charge our 71plate ZS via the Zappy charger and I am well impressed, just plug in and forget it. Intelligent Go certainly lives up to it's name and takes the hassle out of schedule charging.
Second time charging my SE SR (LFP battery) to above 97% today on a granny charger outside at -2C°.
The battery heater engaged automatically and drawing around 1.5 to 1.7 kW every few seconds.
Charging to 100% will take a lot longer than I hoped.
This is the same behaviour as if I had started...
New owner/user - is there a way to switch off the green LED 'ready' other than switching the charger off? It is on permanently. Not sure what power it is drawing but I'd be happy with a 'sleep mode' - no lights. Is it configurable? TIA.
Son rang to ask me to bring our MG5 over as his Leaf wouldn't charge on his Zappi, but would charge on the granny charger.
MG wouldn't charge either so we started investigating the tethered cable for damage and sprayed some WD40 around the terminals. Still no luck. Then we noticed something in...
Sorry if this has been posted before but yesterday I managed to get the car stuck on a Tesla charger (just outside Harrogate). I dont know how I managed it, but the car would not let go of the charger no matter what I did.
If anyone finds themselves in a similar situation, this is how to...
Hi all,
My granny charger seems to be working 'on and off'. Works for a bit, the stops, then I reset, works for a bit more, ... and so on.
As we are now in Winter and I don't do that much driving (only local) in comparison to Summer, so I've been putting 30-40 miles on the battery with the...
Hi fellows,
I have a question here,
I'm an MG4 owner in the UK, can I use the supplied granny charger on any socket in the house?
Like the one in the garden used for the lawn mower?
Thanks in advance.
Interested to hear who everyone chose for their electricity and what rate, as well as what everyone who decided to get a Home EV charger went for, I spend quite a lot of time researching & trying to find the right one for me.
In the end, I purchased a Easee Home Charger which is getting...
I charge my MG5 with the supplied MG charger but the 100% charge milage achieved is around 185 miles and no where near the 235 miles that MG imply. Do other owners have the same experience?
Just got my hands on the portable charger from AE.
Output of 3.1kW
But mid shoes 2.7kW. So about 13% loss
Not bad. It's better than the stock Mg granny.
2kW output but input mid shows 1.3kW. Which is 33% loss ...
Hello to you all, I have installed My-Energy Zappi home charger to charger my MG ZS Trophy, the reason both were available on the Octopus website as compatible for the best intelligent tariff advertised for EVs. I was refused the tariff because of technical issues, after a few email exchanges...
I used one last night and it worked with my MG 4, the car had not been compatible with these new BP chargers but lo and behold yesterday it worked - you can claim a half price coffee by showing the app or card in store !!
Hi all
Any one else had their granny charger moulded plug melt down?
Have had our ZS LR since April
Almost exclusively granny charger charged (1, 20 min rapid chrge in July).
Never used an extension, have socket in porch direct out to car.
Got stuck in a motorway jam on Thursday and ended up...
