charging issues
Inductive charging (also known as wireless charging or cordless charging) is a type of wireless power transfer. It uses electromagnetic induction to provide electricity to portable devices. Inductive charging is also used in vehicles, power tools, electric toothbrushes, and medical devices. The portable equipment can be placed near a charging station or inductive pad without needing to be precisely aligned or make electrical contact with a dock or plug.
Inductive charging is named so because it transfers energy through inductive coupling. First, alternating current passes through an induction coil in the charging station or pad. The moving electric charge creates a magnetic field, which fluctuates in strength because the electric current's amplitude is fluctuating. This changing magnetic field creates an alternating electric current in the portable device's induction coil, which in turn passes through a rectifier to convert it to direct current. Finally, the direct current charges a battery or provides operating power.Greater distances between sender and receiver coils can be achieved when the inductive charging system uses resonant inductive coupling, where a capacitor is added to each induction coil to create two LC circuits with a specific resonance frequency. The frequency of the alternating current is matched with the resonance frequency, and the frequency is chosen depending on the distance desired for peak efficiency. Recent improvements to this resonant system include using a movable transmission coil (i.e., mounted on an elevating platform or arm) and the use of other materials for the receiver coil such as silver-plated copper or sometimes aluminum to minimize weight and decrease resistance due to the skin effect.
First really long trip in my MG4 Trophy. Stopped at Watford Gap to use the Gridserve facility. The connection was successful and easily made. However when we returned to the car the charge had stopped after adding only 8% with an error message suggesting a fault with the car (it had been 8%...
Thought I would try the new Gridserve Hub at Wetherby Services on a recent trip. Sadly, the 350kW chargers there would not work for me and failed with an error message that the car had stopped communications or something similar. I then plugged into the original Gridserve 50kW chargers at the...
I have a 2022 MG ZS EV. I am unable to consistently charge it using a rapid charger. 9 times out of 10 it fails.
I have now had an update applied which I'm told adresses the problem. I tried to charge after that but was unable to do it with the power off as instructed in the manual. After plug...
Hi all,
Anyone having problems with a Gen 1 ZS and Zappi charger? I've been using ours regularly with no problems until last week. I've started to leave the car plugged in overnight with the Zappi set to Eco+ mode in order to take advantage of early morning sun from our PV panels. It's now...
I posted previously regarding the 12 volt battery not being charged resulting in me being stranded. The service centre charged it up and found no other problem however it has happened again, only this time it is worse.. I tried to put the car on charge but nothing happened, no blue lights on the...
Hi All,
I'm new to owning a EV having collected the vehicle last week.
I have an issue where i am unable to bind my mobile to the vehicle, as it appears the previous owner still has the vehicle connected to their mobile device.
I have been in touch with the dealership from where the vehicle...
We recently bought a 20 plate ZS Exclusive, and having moved from an Outlander Phev to a full BEV we thought it was time to get a home charger installed. We picked the Easee One as it's very neat and we needed it to be small for where it was going, and set up the schedule on the charger to only...
Hi I'm new to the Forum as I've just noticed an issue and am hoping for some advice as to how this can be fixed - Apologies if this has already been discussed!
For Info I drive a 22 Plate MG HS PHEV
I've noticed that when using Free Electric Chargers (my new employers have two installed) Once...
Does anyone else have a problem using the wireless charging pad? Mine will charge for about 5 seconds then loses it and I get a message come up saying check for object on the charging pad, but the only object is the phone! I have tried it with a couple of dfferent phones (iPhone 11 and iPhone...
I have the MG5 Excite SR and have been happily charging with and Ohme for nearly 2 years.
In the last week I have had issues when trying to charge overnight. I plug in the charger as usual and the car starts charging at 12.30am as expected but will then stop charging for no apparent reason...
I have installed a BP Pulse charger which has stopped working. I think the rain got to it. Monday morning driving to work noticed the car hadn’t done its timed charge. (Don’t ask). Got home with just enough power left, noticed the Pulse power light not on. Went into house to find the circuit...
I have an MG LR and on more than one occasion I have an issue with Instavolt chargers.
The latest today is the charge starts and then immediately stops. I was at McDonalds Burntwood and I got the same issue on both the chargers there. Didn't matter if I used a card or the app the exact same...
I have had the car a month now and cannot figure out how to charge! I have a Ohme charging box installed. I use the MG app to schedule charging but it’s very hit and miss. Sometimes it charges to 80% overnight as scheduled but other times, like last night it started at 32% at 8pm and by this...
Hi All,
Have been having issues with delayed charging not working on my podpoint with my ZSEV LR. Sometimes it charges overnight, sometimes it doesn’t. Podpoint say it’s not an issue with the unit - latterly I leave the car on timed charge and the unit is flashing green as I think is meant to...
Couldn’t charge at any of 4 Ionity chargers at Newport Pagnell coach station off M1 today. Other people were not having problems with their EV’s (not MG) on the same chargers. When I plugged in the Charger was just not being recognised on the app. Managed good charge at InstaVolt later in my...
I've tried to find something on this elsewhere in the forum, but without success.
I got a new MG HS PHEV back in March and it has been running with almost (the exception being gear change lag in EV mode at around 50 mph) no issues.
Yesterday it went to the dealers for it 6 weeks check and...
I have a HS PHEV and am asking what is the correct charge rate for it. My home charger is Hypervolt which has been tested and can deliver 7kW/32amp, but my car is only charging at 3.5kW/16amp, with a charge time of 3hrs 55mins from 6% left in battery. MG have informed me it should charge at...
I have a chargemaster charger which I got free when I purchased my Renault Zoe.
I am on Octopus Go tariff. Is there any way I can charge my MG5 without staying up until 12.30
Hi everyone
Anyone using a BP Chargemaster home charger for their ZS EV?
I had my BP charger installed a week ago for my ZS EV, which came as part of the lease deal. The charger timed schedule wont start a charge , but it will run for the duration of the charge if I open and lock the car...
