driving

Driving is the controlled operation and movement of a vehicle, including cars, motorcycles, trucks, buses, and bicycles. Permission to drive on public highways is granted based on a set of conditions being met and drivers are required to follow the established road and traffic laws in the location they are driving. The word driving, has etymology dating back to the 15th century and has developed as what driving has encompassed has changed from working animals in the 15th to automobiles in the 1800s. Driving skills have also developed since the 15th century with physical, mental and safety skills being required to drive. This evolution of the skills required to drive have been accompanied by the introduction of driving laws which relate to not only the driver but the driveability of a car.
The term "driver" originated in the 15th century, referring to the occupation of driving working animals like pack or draft horses. It later applied to electric railway drivers in 1889 and motor-car drivers in 1896. The world's first long-distance road trip by automobile occurred in 1888 when Bertha Benz drove a Benz Patent-Motorwagen from Mannheim to Pforzheim, Germany. Driving requires both physical and mental skills, as well as an understanding of the rules of the road.
In many countries, drivers must pass practical and theoretical driving tests to obtain a driving license. Physical skills required for driving include proper hand placement, gear shifting, pedal operation, steering, braking, and operation of ancillary devices. Mental skills involve hazard awareness, decision-making, evasive maneuvering, and understanding vehicle dynamics. Distractions, altered states of consciousness, and certain medical conditions can impair a driver's mental skills.
Safety concerns in driving include poor road conditions, low visibility, texting while driving, speeding, impaired driving, sleep-deprived driving, and reckless driving. Laws regarding driving, driver licensing, and vehicle registration vary between jurisdictions. Most countries have laws against driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. Some countries impose annual renewals or point systems for driver's licenses to maintain road safety.

    MG4 Parking at Airport

So my wife and I have a trip planned for next month, flying from Manchester Airport, and we are planning on driving to the airport which is ~130 miles away. I recently picked up my SE LR, which is my first EV, and so I'm not that concerned about range - though this will be my first really long...

    Driving through flood in EV

Well that was interesting ! A quick drive down the A7 to Carlisle and we came across quite a lot of water across the road . It was passable with care but the Lorry’s in the other direction were not slowing too much and of course their spray was covering our cars ?‍♂️. Not the first time l have...

MG4 LR - changing the Custom driving mode

I have an MG4 LR bought in April 24 (MPU s/w version: SWI69-29958-1100R21, MCU s/w version: 69.3.5.0). I love the car but tend to fiddle with the controls when I can. One of the driving modes is Custom but I can't find out how to change what the custom settings are. I've tried the owners'...

First time charging my 77 to 100%, how much less than the estimated shall I expect?

Hi all After owning my Deluxe 77kwh for a couple of months, and mainly doing free charges at the supermarket's 22kw charger, I did a full overnight charge on my newly installed home charger (32A) I was impressed at the guesstimated range of 588kms in ECO mode (it's winter now, although really...

Lane Assist Trying To Kill Me!

I have had my MG4 EV for approximately 4 weeks (2,000 miles and counting!) and my lane assist is most definitely trying to kill me! Leaving it in emergency lane assist is asking for an accident, the car reacts so violently that you can quite easily end up in a different lane, or off the road...

    Driving MG4 in France

Just taken our MG4 LR across to France. Three observations: 1. Switching units to metric is easy and gives km/h and expresses efficiency as kWh per 100km instead of miles per kWh. 4 miles/kWh equates approx to 15.5 kWh /100 km, 4.5 to just under 14 and 5 miles/kWh to 12.5 kWh /100km. 2...

    Range for used ZS EV

Hello all, Apologies in advance if this is a stupid question. I am looking at my first EV and seen one I am interested in second hand. It has a photo of the battery status: 24% / range 32 miles (so I assume 100% would be 133 miles at this ratio) This seems way off what I assumed would be the...

Good floor mats for left hand side models?

I've seen some nice models in the UK for floor mats, both fabric and rubber, but have not found good ones for Left hand side driving. And the dealer does not offer custom fit ones in my region yet, they handed me some really hard rubber generic ones which move around a lot. What have you found...

    Driving for fun?

Does any one do this anymore? I had the (good)misfortune to be diverted through some East Sussex country lanes on my way to visit my Mum in Bexhill from my work in East London. While the diversion was initially annoying it took me through some fantastic fast narrow country lanes where I was...

    Sweet spot for consumption…

Finally found the sweet spot for consumption in my MG4…Sport mode with Adaptive Regen. Regardless of the type of roads driven - town, B roads, A roads and motorways that combo delivers by far the best returns for me. Easily getting over 4m/kwh in most situations (with the better weather of...

    No to One Pedal driving

I love one pedal driving. I also have gen 1 MG4 and was sad I do not have One Pedal. I have changed my mind now. Since there is so much news on corroded discs, I am now of the opinion that we should be using our brakes regularly just to keep everything cleaned up. Now I am assuming that one...

    5.5 miles/kWh!

Having driven (MG5 FL) from west to South London (mainly south circular!) & back. That's 34miles (including 2 stops) and (yikes!) no queues. However, Sadiq controls the GL area (20mph limits) so the average speed was 13mph? As to miles per kWh the car indicated 5.5. Sounds good, but a little...
