speed

In everyday use and in kinematics, the speed (commonly referred to as v) of an object is the magnitude of the change of its position over time or the magnitude of the change of its position per unit of time; it is thus a scalar quantity. The average speed of an object in an interval of time is the distance travelled by the object divided by the duration of the interval; the instantaneous speed is the limit of the average speed as the duration of the time interval approaches zero. Speed is the magnitude of velocity (a vector), which indicates additionally the direction of motion.
Speed has the dimensions of distance divided by time. The SI unit of speed is the metre per second (m/s), but the most common unit of speed in everyday usage is the kilometre per hour (km/h) or, in the US and the UK, miles per hour (mph). For air and marine travel, the knot is commonly used.
The fastest possible speed at which energy or information can travel, according to special relativity, is the speed of light in vacuum c = 299792458 metres per second (approximately 1079000000 km/h or 671000000 mph). Matter cannot quite reach the speed of light, as this would require an infinite amount of energy. In relativity physics, the concept of rapidity replaces the classical idea of speed.

    Actual speed and GPS speed

Have you also noticed that the ACTUAL speed of the mg3 on the speedo is almost the same as the speed recorded on the GPS? It's the first time a car hasn't left a margin ... very useful for avoiding speed camera fines.

    MG3 Hybrid Navigation Speed Icon

In the driver's manual the diagram showing the navigation screen indicates that the national road speed shows as an Icon in the bottom corner i.e. 30mph etc., on my screen this corner is blank and I cant find any information on how to get this to show. Secondly on a recent drive having set a...
  3. constant speed control

Have a nice evening, on the French user manual (page 43 or 41 on the English manual for the symbol and 226 for the explanations), there are 2 symbols indicating that there is constant cruise control. Symbol identical to acc but without the car (on the dashboard). but when intelligent driving is...

    Chargers for a rented house

I know lots has been said about "granny chargers" but I can't seem to find an answer to my specific question. I'm getting an MG4 on our salary sacrifice scheme from work. First EV so it will be a huge change for me. I will be mainly "granny charging" at home and I'll fast charge at work. My...

    ACC limited to 20mph+

Before the recent software updates my ACC could be set at 10MPH. Now you can't set it below 20. This is more annoying than I first thought. Is this expected or is there a fault?

    Speed camera alert

That really does annoy me, that and the speed display being wrong most of the time, and more so when the slow down banner appears over the top of the limit icon when I'm doing 22 in a 30 limit. So which is the actual camera alert setting as I'm getting more and more frustrated with the...

Why do the setting not stay set GRR!!!

Still love the car but the setting is driving us mad. Speed camera notification is great, but we are surrounded by them up here so on some roads it's almost a continuous BONG BONG BONG BONG, now I appreciate the warnings, but it's just too much, too many bongs per camera for a start maybe two...

    Speed warning

I was fiddling with my (new) MG4 settings the other day. Now, whenever the car reaches 37kph, the car "bings" at me with a speed warning saying "Slow down". I cannot now find where the setting is that controls this. Help please.

Active cruise control not that good

I tried it out yesterday for the first time on 50 limit dual carriageway, it was fine and adjusted it's speed well, I did get a bit nervous when we came to the island at the end and had the brake covered but it slowed down well enough, the next bit was a 40 limit so I left it to fend for itself...

    Speed limit on the dash

On Wednesday evening I drove about one mile to a farm to pick up some trays of eggs, coming back I happened to notice the dash speed limit was showing 100, now neither of us has been into it to mess with that, it was turned on at the dealers so I can only assume it has an auto change from miles...

Help Needed: Disabling Annoying Speed Alert on 2023 MG ZS EV

Hello everyone! I'm driving a 2023 MG ZS EV here in Perth, Australia. Does anyone know how to disable the annoying audible alert when going over 102 km/h? It doesn't happen every time I start the car, but when it does, I can't seem to turn it off. Lowering the volume isn't a great solution...

MG Pilot Speed Limiter defaults to 'off' at every car 'Start'/'Ready' power on

This might be a daft question, but on my MG5, the MG Pilot Speed Limiter turns itself off every time the car is powered off. This means that at the start of each trip, I have to go into the Vehicle settings and set it back on. Every. Time. And it is not a setting that is accessible whilst...

    Quirks of the MG5

Hi guys I've now owned my 2021 MG5 PFL LR for a couple of weeks and driven almost 1000 miles so have noticed some oddities and thought it would be fun to start a thread to talk about the quirks of the car. This is not a complaints thread, I love the car and no car is perfect, all have things...

Great outing for MG at Goodwood festival of speed - but one complaint

Very annoying that the Eurosport commentators mis-identifed 2 models - repeatedly mis identifying the MG Cyber GTS, even with 'Cyber GTS' written all over the bodywork (kept saying it was the MG4 XPower) and calling the MG5 the MG3 despite, again, it saying MG5 on the number plate! But the Cyber...

    Fast charging problems

I'm crossing France on Ionity chargers. In all of them I have the same load, no more than 40kW and dropping to 32kW in a short time. I have gone to a Tesla super charger and same problem, 32kW maximum. MG ZS EV LR Luxury.

All new cars now have to have speed limiters

This came into force yesterday in the EU (and UK by default, since manufacturers don't seem to differentiate for our market). https://www.autoweek.com/news/a61532276/mandatory-speed-limiters-europe-cars/

    Speed limiter

So I've been trying to work out to what extent I'll have a speed limiter when my car is registered on the 15th. Given that there are no ota updates, I can't see how they will switch it on given it was manufactured before 7/7. Any ideas?

    XPOWER 1 week in

Just wanted to make a few comments and observations after a week (actually 5 days :)) with my new XPOWER. So far I'm extremely happy with the car. It's definitely no Audi / BMW / Mercedes inside - there are a few obvious cut corners, but I expected that. Sport mode is ridiculously quick. I...

    5.5 miles/kWh!

Having driven (MG5 FL) from west to South London (mainly south circular!) & back. That's 34miles (including 2 stops) and (yikes!) no queues. However, Sadiq controls the GL area (20mph limits) so the average speed was 13mph? As to miles per kWh the car indicated 5.5. Sounds good, but a little...
