voltage
Voltage, also known as electric pressure, electric tension, or (electric) potential difference, is the difference in electric potential between two points. In a static electric field, it corresponds to the work needed per unit of charge to move a test charge between the two points. In the International System of Units, the derived unit for voltage is named volt.: 166 The voltage between points can be caused by the build-up of electric charge (e.g., a capacitor), and from an electromotive force (e.g., electromagnetic induction in generator, inductors, and transformers). On a macroscopic scale, a potential difference can be caused by electrochemical processes (e.g., cells and batteries), the pressure-induced piezoelectric effect, and the thermoelectric effect.
A voltmeter can be used to measure the voltage between two points in a system. Often a common reference potential such as the ground of the system is used as one of the points. A voltage can represent either a source of energy or the loss, dissipation, or storage of energy.
Bought my MG4 from Glyn Hopkin in Cambridge in Novermber. Went to start MG4 this morning and noticed that it had failed to charge overnight. It will not charge at all. The low-voltage battery charging system malfunction warning light was on. Phoned MG and they told to phone AA. Phoned AA and...
Reading the manual I'm not quite clear on the notes about charge levels (manual p.295) for maintaining a healthy battery pack
"When using the vehicle on a daily basis, it is recommended to fully charge it at least once a week, which is conducive to the health maintenance of the high-voltage...
Hi all,
Due to pick my ZS trophy up tomorrow, my dealer has sent me a 30 minute video of the car controls and charging point to get familiarized and to see if i need to ask any questions.
watching the video I came across this screen and the percentage of charge and estimated mileage in sport.
is...
I live on a main road but do have a drive way ,
I was thinking of getting a “DANGER HIGH VOLTAGE !” Sign for my garden gate as the charger is behind it .
Any one else done some thing similar ?
Hi all, I can't find any reference for this so far, but does anybody know what the long range HV battery voltage should be when 100% charged?
Got mine last week and want to know if battery is properly equalised when I get round to it.
This programme, ‘Vintage Voltage’, currently ‘On Demand’ on the Quest channel has been mentioned on here a couple of times before. The chappies take a classic car and ’electrify’ it, so to speak! As I’ve only just discovered it, was really interested to find out that one of the episodes features...
Hi folks, today while out on a short trip, with plenty of remaining range.
I suddenly receive a warning “bong” followed by a warning symbol appear in the dash panel.
It remained there for about only ten seconds and it was gone !.
As best I can can remember, it was a red battery symbol, with what...
Morning,
So I've been ready through these threads to educate myself, still new to this game.
I'm reading a lot about balancing the battery and not too clear on how/when/why you do this the more I read the more confused I am.
Also interested to know what the voltage should read when fully...
Hi guys, I've had my ZS EV since July and covered 3256 miles since. I'm using public charging for all charging as I don't have a driveway.
Have rapid charged on long journeys, but mostly 7kW AC charging the rest of the time.
Wen I first got the car the predicted range was 163 in N and 179 in...
Does anyone know the current MGZSEV HV pack voltage range (specifically the min volts at 0% SOC)?
I know the max volts is either 456v (old BMS) or 450v (latest BMS), but what are the respective Min volts for each BMS standard?
Two questions (please) from a fairly new MG5 owner.
1) I have read in the handbook (not the most clear handbook) that to improve the life of the 12 volt battery it is recommended to set the power mode to ready for half an hour once a week - is this in addition to regularly driving the car or...
I have a faulty battery on my MG5 and we are 70 miles from home on a 4 day break. We have been in the Bury St Edmunds MG dealership all day, phoned my local dealer (Crayford & Abbs) at Bodham spoke to Mark in service (very good) but obviously nothing he can do till I get it back. So looks like...
Just thought I'd document today's charging session, from 18% to 88%.
I charge with an openEVSE, the current is limited by the available current from my PV system.
The first figure is the most interesting one, the difference between the lowest and highest cell in mV.
Who's got a theory to...
Apologies for another potentially silly question..... I had 3 young children asleep in the car today so I decided to sit with them on my drive for a few minutes to let them sleep. I left the air conditioning running as it was soooo hot outside. After only 4 or 5 minutes a yellow warning sign...
I have owned my MG EV since December 2020. Had no problems until this month. I am using at least 2k of battery to every 1 km travelled with no air con, heating on etc. I have had a total breakdown where every warning light was on and unable to move car after starting. Had to be towed to...
Another one about battery voltage. Just watched the podcast re voltage. When fully charged and balanced mine reads 456 volts. I also noticed that the Chorley dealer stated that it should be 449 volts and that the latest software was introduced on January 18th. I collected my car on January 4th...
Since I've got my OVMS up and running I get an overview of the voltage of the 12V battery over time.
When the car is parked the voltage slowly drops, perhaps a little faster due to the OVMS itself and even faster since I've got a SIM installed and 3G is active.
The 12V battery appears to get...
