Hi Everybody, greetings from Droitwich, Worcs! got our new Trophy on 17/12, which came 96% fully charged, on the whole been really good, seat comfort could be better and drivers seat should really have memory positions for different drivers, but for the money a great car, we only have the home charger at present, our wall charger gets installed on 20/01, know the following this has been posted 100's of times, but just wanted some quick confirmation on what has happened recently, done a 120 mile round trip, and got good consumption, but still learning the car (it had a problem with "transit" mode over the first weekend), charged the car back up to about 85%, which showed a good range, just been doimnga few short runs and lthis week from the projections on the charging it looks as though full charge will only give a range of about 150 miles, although need to confirm this. We use Octopus go for reduced rates from 12:30 to 4:30, never use the peak rates, which to me defeats the purpose especially with other users "hogging" public chargers and really high rates for rapid chargers.
Has anybody else had this problem, or is it something I am doing wrong, its on max regen, normal driving mode, not much heating on, never pre warm the car.
To be honest think we will use the MG4 for runs where I know I can get back without charging enroute, for long runs will use my Alfa Stelvio Diesel, which gives me nearly 50 mpg, as I do not fancy having to recharge two to three times on for example long airport runs.
I'll get some observation s and post some photos

Are you using it for short journeys? As these are worse performance especially in colder wet weather.

Also have you tried charging it to 100% and letting it balance and see your efficiency from there

This sounds perfectly normal. You should get around 160 - 210 miles on a single journey at this time of year.

Due to the extra energy required to heat up a cold car you can assume that it uses around 3-4 miles each time you get in it. So say you do 10 short trips that could be 30-40 miles gone before the car even moves.

It'll get much better once spring arrives.

If you aren't using the pre heating and using the car for short journeys it will annihilate the range, its something I have noticed, to and from the supermarket 8 miles...5-6% of the battery used on a cold day. Similar day but a 60+ mile round trip and I am getting 3+ miles / kw/h.

My Lexus CT (previous car) on the same routes used to do about 45mpg and 60mpg respectively.

Its all about how you use the car as it is with any car.

Hi
I have a Mg5 long range pre facelift
I too do short journeys and this is what I posted earlier this month

I’ve had the car 15 months so I had it last winter and had the same last year but when the outside temperature is above 10°C the miles per kilo watt is a lot better so don’t worry too much
???????

We've only had our MG4 Trophy for a few days, but we've just taken it on two 110 mile journeys (plus a few short ones). From full (home) charge the GOM is showing about 210-220 miles, and doing the equivalent of about 210 miles with 2 people in it, and about 190 miles with 3 people (+ lots of luggage). This is on normal, strong regen, with car heater continuous, and seat heaters as necessary. I think this is a bit below our expectations (we've been driving electric cars for 3 years - MG ZS EV and Kia e-Niro) so we have experience with summer/winter range. I'm expecting it to get a lot better as the temperature gets above 15degrees or so.

Yep, all thisis good advice, thanks guys, I'll try all the obs out!, and get round to reading the manual!!!
Also someone on Facebook observed that their battery heating was switched on after a software update and needed to be switched off from the infotainment screen.

A too I would advise it to turn off the “intelligent battery heater” ( its under the charge or discharge settings tab I believe. That feature grenades your range especially if you doing lots of smaller trips ?? ( it’s only needed for if you want maximum charging speed 120kw ish when the ambient temp is low )
