1000 miles in...

Update to my shock absorbers issue, parts have been in order since 7th Jan. Doesn’t bode well if a critical part is required and the car is off the road. Curious to know if any others have had issues with parts supply?
Sorry I missed this response.

The new shocks didn't solve the knocking, they had it back to go over again but still not resolved. It sounds more and more like a cable knocking somewhere and definitely not suspension related.

kind of given up now. :-(

Some post hereabouts talked of a new boot latch. I'm sure there was also one a bit back about he hinges.

How much was the first service out of interest?
It was about £65 inc paying £10 for the corrosion warranty inspection on the low mileage price. Got a bear, years breakdown cover renewed and a Latte from the cafe so pretty happy. Not happy with lack of parts but it is what it is and not unique to MG currently.

My car had its first service yesterday but they were unable to change the rear shock as the parts were still not available and they had no eta. It does concern me a little as currently it is still drivable but could very easily be disabled by another small part.

My brother has an independent service garage and they are having a hard time finding all the parts they need at times across many makes.

The big issue with MG EV is no or little aftermarket parts seem to exist which is most likely as they have not been around long in the UK I guess.
Have you tried Aliexpress they have some parts for the roewe 5 which as many of the same parts.

Just a quick update to say my rear shock was changed yesterday and all is well once again. Will be testing it thoroughly later today as we have a nearly 300 mile round trip to Birmingham for a concert!

My 5 is booked in for the update and a major banging noise when first driven, worse in cold. Local garage could see nothing wrong visibly but suggested faulty shock on one side. After driving for a mile or so depending on temp it mostly goes away. Leave the car stationary for an hour and it starts again until it has done a mile or so again. Waiting until the 10th Dec as this was the first appointment, then will no doubt have to wait for parts as well
Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but I think my 21-plate is doing exactly this. Grr.

Does anyone have information about part numbers for the rear shocks? I'm having a devil of a time finding any anywhere, mainly because the usual parts suppliers don't seem to have much information about part fitments and lists.

Hi everyone, long time lurker! :p

So picked up my MG5 Long Range on 1st September - go #teamRed - and this week just ticked over 1000 miles.

From new I noticed a slight knocking noise coming from the back to the car and after removing everything from the boot area etc and searching for anything hanging down, I finally took it into my local dealer (I had to buy if from further away) as they were going to do the KERS update anyway.

So after a bit of backwards are forwards they came out and said I needed two new rear shocks! o_Oo_Oo_O

More than a little surprised but everything covered with warranty so I'm booked if for later this month when the parts arrive...

Obviously they forgot todo the KERS update so that will be done then too.

Wow that is something to watch. I have had mine since 1/8 and have 1200 miles on the clock. I have also noticed a sound similar to what you describe so will investigate and get it done. Thanks for the heads up. How do you like the touchscreen when the vehicle is in motion particularly?

A short while ago I had a persistant tapping/knocking, thought it was something in the centre console box (keys etc), emptied everything out of the doors glovebox and centre box, still there.
The wife said it sounded like the rear end.
I must explain that I'm really deaf without my hearing aids, so directional listening isn't very easy for me.
With everything out of the car, I turned my attention to the boot, we constantly carry the wife's folded wheelchair, took it out and hey presto noise gone.
Upon putting it back, I noticed the two footrest paddles where positioned close together when folded, so I folded a large microfibre cleaning cloth and placed it between the footrests.
Now happy noise free motoring...
