25/01/21: Just had latest BMS software. Observations...

Am I right in thinking that there is no way to tell what software updates you’ve had on the car?
I called my dealer this morning about the software update. They said after my last service, 11/01/21, that my car was up to date but I thought the BMS update wasn’t available until the week after?

I did a full charge last weekend and it showed as 450v. The charge took about 18 hours, including equalisation, but that was on a granny charger.
New revised BMS update was only released by MG late pm on 15th January

I had my car updated yesterday to the latest BMS software.

My range has stayed the same but my voltage has dropped from 455V to 450V. See attached pics.

MG have a list of VIN numbers so dealer should check if your car is on list and needs new update of 15th Jan.
According to what I saw on the MG EV weekly webcast, it's nothing to do with a VIN number.
It totally depends on when each car was last updated and therefore what version of the software it has installed.
They'll plug in it and it'll check versions in car against latest on MGs servers, and tell them what updates are available to perform.

Correction/Clarification:
It isn't a range of VIN number that need updating. It is purely down to when each car was last updated.
From what Mike just said, MG must maintain a central database of what software each car (by VIN) has - if they can lookup a VIN and see what software versions it has. At the service when plugged in, it must upload to MG what the car has installed - interesting.

Hi.
I'm curious.
Did you have the picture of a car with the dramatic words above it saying Sports mode is active etc, before your car just went in for the latest update, and have you got them now?
Trying to do detective work to find out when this was updated!
cheers
Jody

Haven't had that before or after the update ??‍♂️

I actually tried to emulate it today after this post, most disappointed when it didn't.

I can tell you that I test drove a ZS EV before the comfort 2 update was released and that had these graphics.

Hi every body, greetings from Costa Rica. I had the actualization of software this week. First charge I see almost the same. The voltage is 441v and performance is almost the same previous. The dealer told me it could take couple of weeks to be normal. How do you think I have to wait for rebalancing the battery process? Your imputs will be appreciated

I did not charge my car since BMS update on 25/01/2021, because I had full battery. I plugged in yesterday at Pod point 22kw charger, cable was plugged in but was not charging, until I locked the car. Charging did continue when open the lock. Battery charge was 70% and in 26 minutes only got 2.3 KWh added, when the temperature was 9. I thought it should have given more charge for 22KWH charger? Previous charge before battery update, I would get near enough 7kwh for an hr charge at 7KWH even even when the temp was 1.

The ZS only has a 6.6kw onboard charger so unless it's rapid charging it will only ever charge at that speed no matter if it's a 7, 11 or 22KW charging post

I just had my second charge after the BMS update.
Is any of you experiencing the same as me!
The car is reporting on the info screen that the charge is stopped at 100%. The car has so far been plugged in for 14 hours, I started at 42% and been charging at 10A. The weird thing is that the wallbox seems still to deliver current to the car, I don't have a meter on the wallbox but it still blinks like it is charging.
The MG badge is constantly glowing no impulse glowing like normal.
All this also happened on the first charging.
Is there still some equalisation balancing going on with the Battery???

If the mg badge is glowing constantly then the car is in the equalisation phase

When the balancing process has completed, it should send a signal to the wall box and open the contactor and stop the charge automatically.
I have the older type 32Amp dumb Rolec wall box, with a Wi - Fi relay fitted inside to allow timed charging in cheap Off - Peak electric.
Normally, if I just plug in the car and allow it to continue to charge, it will charge until the pack is full and then send a signal to the wall box and stop the charge.
You can hear the contactor in the wall box “Thump” when it disengaged.
Not sure if will react in the same way now of course !.
Still puzzled why the charge / balancing process is taking SO long !.
I4 hours is crazy and does not feel right to me, what are your thoughts folks ?.

Has anyone come across this scenario?

I set my Ohme charger to charge the car to 100%. I checked the car this morning and it was equalising.

I then checked the car again and the lodge was off, so I assumed it had finished the process but my charger was still saying it was charging?! I unlocked the car so I could see the state of charge and then locked it, and the MG light came on again to show it was equalising again?

Thanks all. I have just not noticed the period when the balancing is going on before then. It seems to take a long time, but maybe that will change after more charges like we have been told before we can see the full effect of the update. So for now I just leave it plugged in and see if it stops the wallbox by it self.

Oh, and now my car is showing as 444v on a full charge?
