Hi all. My MG5 is coming up to 3 years old. I've only done 12,500 miles to date - no long trips to France this year!

I've done annual servicing and this year MOT is due for the first time. Given that I forked out for a 2 year / 20,000 mile service (fairly major one) last year I am seriously questioning whether it's worthwhile getting a service on top of the MOT.
Wilsons Epsom did a good job last year and this year the option seems to be a 3 year / 30,000 mile "minor" service for £189.. plus the MOT..

I guess the service is needed to continue the 7 year warranty? although I see "The warranty is valid as long as the vehicle is inspected annually by an MG dealer and documented. The dealer may charge for this service. " does a Dealer provided MOT count as an inspection?

Also, I guess it may be useful to ensure it gets a software update - if there is one due?

If in doubt I'll probably pay up for the service, but would be interested to know what the wise sages on this forum think...

It's been a while since I've looked on the forum - the WIki regarding Tesla Supercharger access is really helpful.
Looks like it's definitely worth getting a service that also gives me a software update? My MG5 is a PFL LR so it's hopefully going to be a good candidate for getting the software update to allow access to Tesla Superchargers

Avoiding the service would be a poor decision. My 3rd cost less than this but it's all down to local labour rates at the end of the day. See my thread here for details:

My third service was 90 quid and they did absolutely nothing but I do have another year of free aa assistance.

They did the Tesla update for 60 pounds

It’s worth it just to keep the warranty and as cover

I was a couple of thousand miles late with an ICE service on a Ford once and they refused a major claim in that same year. Can't remember all the ins and outs but it was a 4 yo Mondeo V5 and the big end apparently went. The dealer claimed the Mobil synth oil had probably broken down. I didn't bother telling Mobil that their top of the range oil was no good as I suspect they'd have laughed at me.

It's worth getting the service IMO just for the warranty - but the added bonus of AA makes it a no brainer.

I don't disagree with your conclusion but there isn't much of the warrantee left after 3 years. Just the main battery I think.

Thanks all. I will book it in. I think I missed a trick by not renewing the MG / AA Assist. the Dealer I bought the car from is no longer a MG dealer and I didn't think to ask the dealer I used to do the 1 and 2 year services to renew it. Once it's gone is it lost forever?

It's supposed to get renewed if you have the car serviced at an MG dealer, you shouldn't need to ask them to do it specifically.

With the technology (+ software!) in EV cars today I take the hit, every time. I need to eliminate risk & get carefree motoring. mmh? OK, near enough!
