A missing mile.

I am using the EV watchdog app at the moment and I like it a lot ? at first I thought some of the information may not be quite right like average MilesperkWh as it's more than the car shows but it does seem to work out correct at 6.4 mpkwh for the trip home from work this afternoon the car shows 4.5 mpkwh , i did 8.8 miles and used 1.3 kwh , the trip home is downhill and flat roads for about 80% of the journey , I like the instant and average mpkwh as it updates much quicker than the car and helps a lot with efficient driving and it's good to see how much kwh there is in the battery pack at any given percentage , fully charged mine was 41.6 kwh at 93% which is about right for what we know is the usable kwh for the car ???

Yes I have more testing to do ? looks promising ? I must admit that since my BMS update a few weeks ago to the latest one the car does seem to regen better than before , I don't know if anyone else has noticed a change in regen apart from the full charge regen possible at 93% now , went down hill the other day for about 1.5 miles and gained 4 miles!
 
I live near the top of a hill and usually gain a couple of miles range in the first mile or so. Unfortunately I then lose those extra miles on the way back up. :) No such thing as a free lunch.
You are right it does tend to even out , but I have been down the same hill before and only gained a couple of miles but since the BMS update the regen seems to be better not in the terms of feel but the battery pack excepting more charge I have seen the regen peak at 94 amps a few times which I have not noticed before , I know there are alot of variables to take account , but at the moment I am constantly getting more than enough regen on the way home to cover the up hill journey to work ,16 mile round trip only ever using 12/13 miles of GOM range and using the EV watchdog it also shows the same saving on range ? so I am enjoying my free lunch at the moment and at this time of year ?? come to think of it I did get a free burger and chips at work the other day , another free lunch ???

With the new (450v) BMS, other than getting (more) regen at high SOC, I don't think we know for definite that it makes any other difference to the regen performance.
It would be interesting to know if anyone had repeatable tests of the max amps generated during regen, before and after BMS update.
I've always had the new BMS and have seen regen getting to around 100amps.

Yes I must admit I wish I had done more testing with my original BMS from 2019 ? but I am happy with the latest BMS version to my mind the car to me does seem slightly more efficient ? and I will post on your Soh thread soon my car was a demo car so I don't know how many times it was charged from new but I can make an educated guess ??
 
Thanks for your SoH info. I wonder how much the lowest cell voltage impacts the system's reported SoH? Maybe I can get a comment from @MilesperkWh in this evening's Podcast?
I just watched yesterdays pod cast, I don't think anyone really knows how it's calculated. From the podcast I don't think even they realise how easy it is to read the SOH provided by the car/ecu, and it doesn't matter what "program" you use to read it, the data is what is provided by the car.
Miles did mention that possibly the ECU software version could affect the SOH/how it's calculated, which in theory could be true, although I can't see any reason why they'd change the algorithm (other than adjusting for the different buffers) to give different readings.

Interesting observation. On Monday's "Podcast", it was commented that the new MG5 Long Range has changed the way the miles/kWh is calculated. In ZS EV and first-gen MG5 the Miles/kWh only accounts for energy expended by the motor and miles travelled whereas the New MG5 LR also accounts for the Energy recovered through Regen Braking (KERS). It was said that the MG, therefore, underreports the actual m/kWh.

Yes, I have often thought that on occasions I have driven efficiently but the car mpkwh has not reflected that , my journey home again tonight EV watchdog shows 7 mpkwh the car shows 4.1 mpkwh I am sure that EV watchdog is correct . The journey to work this morning up hill the car showed 3.5 mpkwh and EV watchdog 3.7 mpkwh which is much closer , so I think you are correct that the car does not accurately show the advantage of regen on the return journey , but as I said before I like the EV watchdog apps live information it gives the opportunity to change your driving style or even adjust things on the car tyre pressures , HVAC settings etc and get quicker fed back than the car may give as to how the efficiency maybe affected and improved ??

I suspected something like this was going on, it's only now having the EV Watchdog app that I can actually see what is (hopefully reasonably accurately) happening with regen.
Eventually I will do some proper analysis of the data from EV Watchdog and compare it to the cars computer, to see what's what.
