Not an MG
I’m trying to find out if I should have free AA cover or not, I’ve a 4 year service plan I took out via MG website & got second service with Chiswick MG but when I call the service team they don’t know & say someone will call me back, but they never do. Am a bit fed up with this now, is there any other way to check?

I got our MG5 Long range when it was 1 year old from an MG dealer, and they supplied an AA membership number but said I have to pay £1 a month, which seemed fine to me but a year later that’s fine up to £6.23, I called the AA & they said MG assistance normally doesn’t cost anything but depends where you bought it from. On the MG website it says it’s included as long as you have a service plan.

Appreciate any advice.

The first year the car has AA cover when you get it serviced at a MG dealer the AA membership is renewed for free for another year. You can call the AA to see if the car is covered.

Thanks for the replies, especially Jomarkh, the car has the warranty but I have moved servicing to Chiswick MG , I bought it from a different MG in Yorkshire, it’s a bit weird MG Chiswick don’t seem to know anything about it, spoke to sales direct today who said the know nothing about it, & its service I need to speak to, despite me phone service last Thursday & Friday who said it was sales. I’m going to try phoning the original dealers to see if they know anything. So far it seems a mystery, the AA said it’s covered but it’s from me paying not from MG. The warranty is in place and it all should be covered.
Update : I called the AA again today & they confirmed I had AA cover from MG but also had a personal extra 1 for unlimited roadside call-outs, hence I was paying £1 extra for this, it’s an offer the original dealer must have given me, this had no returned to a normal price of £6.35 a month, the MG cover is only 1 call-out a year. At least according to the AA.

I believe you should get the MG assist (AA) as long as the car's been serviced by an MG dealer.
But it probably needs the dealer to update the records correctly to show this.

You are being told a whole load of b******s by whoever you are talking to. (pardon my French, must have been watching too much Olympics :) )

MG assistance is comprehensive, Home Start, recovery, onward travel, hotel accommodation, courtesy car etc. It is not restricted to 1 call out a year at all and is totally free provided the car is serviced.
See here, check fine details and terms and conditions if necessary.

Thanks Gomev, that’s what I thought, weird MG Chiswick sales & service seem to know nothing about MG assistance, the AA we’re very polite & would have saved me so much time if they had told us when I first called we had two breakdown cover contracts, I had to ask her to check the second time, it was then they said I had a personal & an MG contract. It cost us £17 odd we didn't need to have paid out.
The AA told me it was only 1 call out that’s why the MG garage had offered me an option to take out extra cover. I was so giddy with buying the car I didn’t pay full attention it seems. So a warning for future owners get your AA sorted when you buy it and call the AA to check for an MG contract if the garage is as uninformed as mine.

Similar question. Also Chiswick MG. Bought the car from them in November 2023. It came with 2 years "free" servicing. I have this confirmed on the invoice and also an email from MG service at chiswick kind of welcoming me.

My question is the same. Does AA service continue in year 2 when ive had the "free" service?

I had similar with Mercedes in the past. Free servicing. RAC free after a service at a dealer. No evidence i got this and service dept clueless. "It will update on the system". Luckily had no breakdowns!

What about the restriction in the third bullet point on page 7 of the terms and conditions at the kink you give? It says: "A second or subsequent recovery after the Eligible Vehicle has been recovered." is not covered. Doesn't this mean 1 call out per year only?

I think it means that if you've had a call out, they expect you to have it fixed and won't come a second time to attend to the same problem. That's pretty standard for all the breakdown services.

It does beg a question - say I have a problem, get recovered to an MG dealer, they appear to fix it, but the problem comes back. Are we left stranded even though we had had the fault repaired? Or will the cavalry come back out?

I can see that if you called them out ten times a month for the same fault, that would be an abuse of the system. I would hope that, if you could show you had tried, they should say that's OK.

That simply means that if they have recovered it to a location and left it there (a garage/your home etc) then they won't come back and move it to somewhere else.

If the problem comes back and you are still at the dealers then obviously no need for a call out, if however it has been fixed and you have moved on then it is a new case even if the same fault.

e.g. Would they refuse to come and recover you a second time if you had an irreparable puncture a second time a week/month after a first one ? (assuming no spare as not supplied by manufacturer and foam won't do the job).

I'm on 2nd MG service contract (1st ZS now MG5 FL). MG Eastcote let me know after each service they renew/update AA cover. As for MG Chiswick (I know them well), they're Honda by default & relatively new to MG.

Chiswick is also my dealer. I have to say I have always found them to be good.
I have asked after my service and they confirmed they had renewed the AA cover.

They also did the Tesla update for free having confirm when they plugged the car in it showed as a required update.
