ABRP

HOW???? Doesn't work for me. What map does it share to? Does it read live charge state/GOM
So for me, when I have my phone connected to Android Auto and Google Maps Navigation running. If I have ABRP open on my phone also navigating, I can then hit share to map and it comes up on the AA Google Maps Nav with the directions to the next charger on the planned journey, which you then have to accept. So not fully integrated but you can update the Nav on AA with two touches on your phone and then one on AA.

With a bluetooth OBD2 dongle and Torque Pro, you can have live data fed to ABRP so that it knows your SoC and consumption live.

All of this is for the free version of ABRP, the premium subscription adds the following functionality;

  • Multiple Vehicles (Limited to one vehicle on free version)
  • Drives History
  • Live Weather (Adjusts range based on live weather (headwind, tempurature etc.)
  • Live Traffic (Adjusts ABRP journey times, power usage etc. based on live traffic)
  • Live Charger Availability (Includes charger availability int he planning, although with free you can still see the charger availability it just doesn't fractor it in)
  • Shared Vehicle Data (Can share data with another account)
  • Apple Watch App
  • Apple Car Play App (They are working on an AA app that will be premium as well)
  • Charge Notifications (Get notification when your required SoC is due to be reached)
  • Geofence Notifications (Get notification when your car leaves a certain area)

My plan is to stay on the free version but If I have a long trip planned like one to the south of France. I might pay for a months subscription (€5) so I can use those extra features for that one trip (once they bring out the AA app).

What would be useful on the car display is an app that showed a map with your position and about 20 miles around (and locked to north at the top, none of the confusing auto-rotation to your direction of travel which I find makes most moving maps unusable) and reads your GOM miles remaining and highlights when there ere less than three charge points within range - "divert to nearest charge point now!" alert.
Technically this must be possible
SWMBO's MG5 shows a list of nearest chargers on the built in nav screen, when we first open the nav, with the option to select one as a destination. I'm so jealous as my ZS doesn't.

Thanks for this - will definitely try out. The lack of integration for EV apps within AA is frustrating to say the least. I came across WattsUp recently too which is a very simple concept and nice design showing you your route and the various charging options as you progress. It indicates the number of chargers at a particular stop and also charge status, though that doesn't seem to work very comprehensively at the moment which is a shame. No current integration with AA either.

Yep, that sounds a sensible approach. Hoping for a long trip later this year and maybe ABRP AA integration will be up and running by then...

Another one to check out.

Interesting, I didn't think mine did that, but I haven't really played with the built in Nav as I totally hate that you can't seem to get a clean map with north at the top showing your position in the centre as you move. I don't actually want navigation, I just want to glance down and see my position clearly.

Under no circumstances would I even consider looking at a list of chargers in the built in sat nav. That's a recipe for a terrible journey. I won't ever come close to running my MG5 out of battery without having planned exactly where I might charge (with several options to choose from) on any given journey. I'd want to know the price, the amenities, the network, the reliability etc...

I agree on the planning, but it's useful if you're stuck and willing to pay though.
